This provision is good
The childminder provides good quality teaching, which enables children to make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder maintains good communication with parents and she provides regular feedback about children's development. Children's independence skills develop well. They have many opportunities to make choices and they are happy to explore their environment and take responsibility to develop their play activities. Children's behaviour is good. They are confident because the childminder has a caring attitude and consistently encourages them to share their opinions. She responds promptly to their requests.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to develop their understanding of size and measures. Children do not learn enough about other faiths, cultures and the world around them. The monitoring of practice is not robust enough to raise the quality of teaching to higher levels.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at documentation and records required for the smooth running of the setting. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during outdoor activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. She carried out a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held several discussions with the childminder. The inspector spoke with children during the inspection. The inspector read written comments and looked at questionnaires completed by parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to protect children from harm. She has completed appropriate training and is well informed about reporting procedures should she have concerns about children in her care. The childminder has frequent discussions with her co-childminder about practice and child development. She regularly monitors children's progress and provides written information for parents about their child's achievements. The childminder has regular discussions with other providers where children attend and she plans accordingly for their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She joins in with all aspects of children's play as they explore their surroundings. She promotes their communication with skilful questioning effectively so that children have opportunities to think and develop their ideas. The childminder carries out regular observations and makes termly assessments of children's development. She takes account of their emerging interests to plan further learning experiences. Parents contribute to the next steps in their child's learning and work with the childminder to maintain children's good progress. The childminder effectively motivates children with lots of praise and encouragement.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy their time in the care of the childminder. They are used to the routine and take responsibility to pour their own drinks and select fruits for their snack. Children receive effective support for their physical health. They demonstrate a good understanding of healthy foods and they play outside frequently. Children are self-assured as they talk about home experiences. Their behaviour is good and they learn to have regard for other children and to take turns and share during play activities. Children learn about keeping safe as they walk daily on the nursery run and they take responsibility for some aspects of their personal care. The childminder sits with the children at mealtimes, which helps them to learn good social skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children, including those in receipt of funded education, make good progress. Children correctly count the number of insects they find as they explore the environment. They lead much of the play and select activities. Children name the colours of flowers and make marks on flagstones. They have a preference for play with trains and demonstrate good skills in solving problems as they assemble tracks and reorganise resources. Children are active learners who consistently make choices and have worthwhile play experiences. They enjoy looking at books and choose these from a wide range that is within reach. Children are well prepared for their learning at school.
