This provision is good
The childminder successfully uses observations and assessments to identify what children already know and need to learn next. She accurately assesses their current stage of development and shares this information with parents. Children benefit from specific praise and have high levels of self-esteem. They have good, secure relationships with the childminder who knows them very well. Children are taught to keep themselves safe. For example, they know how to use tools carefully. They also know how to conduct themselves in the local community in a way which keeps them safe. The childminder liaises with other local providers to share ideas and form links with her local authority adviser. She has undertaken some relevant training to help improve her knowledge and skills.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not use her evaluations of her practice to focus on developing an expert knowledge of teaching and learning. The childminder does not use consistent information sharing practices with other settings that children attend, in order to complement their learning and support their progress. The childminder does not make the very best possible use of the outdoor area to build in the learning experiences for children who prefer to learn outside.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas of the premises used for childminding purposes. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including children's records and evidence of the childminder's qualifications and suitability. The inspector observed activities in the indoor and outdoor area. She evaluated the impact of these on children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities and has worked hard to improve since her last inspection. She plans more precisely for the next steps in children's learning. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection and wider safeguarding issues. She is secure in her knowledge of how to identify, monitor and report concerns relating to children's welfare and ensure they are protected from harm. The childminder uses robust risk assessment procedures to minimise or remove potential risks to children's safety. Safeguarding is effective.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gets to know children well. She is aware of what they like and how they like to learn. Her newly implemented tracking and monitoring systems enable her to provide learning experiences that children find interesting and challenging. For example, children learn about weight and quantity as they help to prepare vegetables for their evening meal. Children are encouraged to think for themselves, follow their own ideas and be independent. They develop their physical skills and enjoy learning in the outdoor area where they throw, kick and catch balls. The childminder supports parents to become involved in children's learning. They share information about what their children have been doing at home. The childminder makes good use of this information and she helps parents to understand what children have learned while in her care.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy attending the setting and are confident exploring the well-organised learning environment. They are polite and interact well with others. Children take responsibility for their own belongings. The childminder ensures the daily routine is flexible to meet children's needs. The childminder gathers relevant and useful information from children's parents regarding their routines and preferences. She provides a range of healthy and nutritionally balanced meals and snacks which adheres to children's dietary requirements.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress from their individual starting points. They are confident communicators and make independent choices and decisions. Children have good social skills and high levels of independence. For example, they manage their own personal hygiene routines. Children learn about nature and the world around them. For example, they help to care for the childminder's pet rabbit and go on outings into the local community.
