This provision is good
The childminder has a warm and compassionate nature. She is extremely attentive to children's needs and they have developed close bonds with her. This provides an exceptional base for their emotional well-being and their learning and development. Children develop a very strong understanding of healthy lifestyles. For example, they thoroughly enjoy accessing the childminder's well-resourced garden and regular visits to soft-play areas, for fresh air and exercise. Children gain great pleasure in using their imagination and creativity, such as when using musical instruments. They dance and jump around to the rhythms they create with confidence and delight. The childminder frequently carries out risk assessments to check the suitability of the environment, resources and equipment. She ensures her home is secure and well maintained to keep children safe. The childminder is committed to her work and to making continuing improvement to

her service. For example, she attends training and updates her professional knowledge by reading and research.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully encourage children to build on their understanding of technology and how things work.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, and children's records. The inspector conducted a tour of the premises used for childminding purposes. The inspector viewed, and took into account, the feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection and of how to recognise the signs and symptoms that would give her cause for concern. She knows where to report any concerns about children's well-being should the need arise. The childminder continually strives to improve her work. For example, she regularly evaluates her practice to make ongoing improvements. The childminder has good ideas for improving her service, including further developing the garden as a learning environment, to benefit the children. She seeks the views of parents, including via questionnaires, to further strengthen her evaluation to improve outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses effective teaching techniques. She follows children's interests and guides them successfully as they play. For instance, she supports them to count the shells and sea animals in the rock pool that they had created. This helps to support children's early mathematical skills. She encourages children to develop early writing and literacy skills. For example, children enjoyed using chalks to make purposeful marks. The childminder regularly shares details of her observations and assessments of children's achievements with parents, including through a secure online system. She regularly provides parents with examples of activities they can do at home to extend children's learning further. Parents are encouraged to share learning from home to promote consistency in children's learning and development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder introduces extremely effective routines to encourage children to take carefully managed risks, to help them understand how to keep safe. For example, children learn how to hold a knife carefully when cutting up fruit at snack time. She teaches them to care for themselves and they develop extremely high levels of independence. For instance, they confidently pour their own drinks at mealtimes, and know how to wash their hands, understanding how it helps to promote their good health. The childminder has very high expectations for children's behaviour. She sets realistic boundaries and expectations that promote children's cooperation and positive behaviour very well. When bilingual children become irritable and hungry, she consoles them in their home language highly successfully, which gives them added reassurance.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children progress well in their learning and make good progress in relation to their starting points. They enjoy water play and carefully fill and empty containers of water in water trays. Children eagerly join in with art and crafts, such as making rainbow fish. They develop key skills for future learning and are prepared well for their move to school.
