This provision is good
The partnership with parents is very positive. The childminder works closely with parents to provide a consistent approach to children's care and learning. Information is shared continuously to develop a full picture of children's progress. Children's communication and language skills are developing well. The childminder helps extend their speech and understanding through effective statements and questions. She challenges them further and introduces complex words linked to activities in which they participate. The childminder encourages children's positive behaviour. She acts as a good role model, supporting children's understanding of cooperation in their play. She helps promote good social skills and encourages children to participate in group activities. This helps to prepare them for the next stage of their learning. Children have a good understanding of how to keep themselves safe. They talk about

hazards and the action they take to prevent accidents. For example, not touching the oven during cooking activities because it is hot.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On some occasions, the childminder does not always extend children's understanding of the association between numerals and amounts. Children are not always encouraged to independently explore and experiment with different materials during creative activities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children participating in activities indoors and outdoors. The inspector spoke to parents and considered their written feedback about the childminder's service. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children, where appropriate. The inspector carried out a joint observation and discussed the impact of the childminder's teaching on children's learning. The inspector looked at documentation, such as policies, procedures, records and suitability checks.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of what to do if she has a concern about a child in her care. She has up-to-date information gained through numerous training courses. The childminder uses thorough risk assessments to provide children with a safe and secure environment for their play. The childminder is extremely committed to evaluating her service. She identifies the strengths in her practices and the impact this has on children's care and learning. She also identifies areas to improve and successfully sources training and information to make these changes to provide better outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder promotes a good balance of child-initiated and adult-led learning experiences inside and outside. She cleverly uses her teaching skills to adapt activities for individual children and small groups of children. She also extends and simplifies the activities according to their level of ability. She knows the children extremely well, using information from parents and other carers to provide a consistent approach to their individual progress. The childminder uses a successful assessment programme to observe, evaluate and plan for the next steps in their learning. She uses an effective tracking system to identify any gaps and to plan activities to support these areas in children's learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are confident, independent and have high levels of self-esteem. The childminder encourages children to try new activities through praise and encouragement. Children are very settled, especially as they only attend on a part-time basis. They have close relationships with the childminder, feeling safe, secure and welcome in her home. Children's physical well-being is promoted well. They understand the importance of hygiene procedures at snack time and during cooking activities. They enjoy using the outdoor play area where they can choose to play whenever they wish. They make healthy choices of snacks and meals, discussing what foods they enjoy with encouragement to try new tastes.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress. They show a very good understanding of technology and cause and effect. For example, children use scales to weigh cooking ingredients, pressing buttons to zero the scales ready for the next ingredients. Children use progressive physical skills to mix and pour, helping them to develop the skills required for future learning, such as writing. Children are starting to make links between letters and sounds. For example, they look at the letters on food packets and guess what is inside from the first letter sound.
