For example, she gets to know children's interests and provides activities and resources to support them to settle and enjoy learning. Children receive good support in their learning and development. For example, the childminder helps children to explore capacity as they enjoy filling and emptying containers. Children extend their mathematical vocabulary and make good progress from their starting points. The childminder is caring and attends to children's needs promptly so they are relaxed and happy. She forms close bonds with children to support their emotional development well and helps them to be confident to take part in activities. The inspector observed the childminder working with her co-childminder while engaged in activities with children, indoors and outdoors. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector talked to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the views of children and parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date and attends all mandatory training. For example, she carries out research to provide children with activities that motivate them to learn, such as a variety of interesting sensory experiences. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is vigilant about signs that might lead to a concern about a child, and knows the correct procedure to follow to keep children safe. The childminder implements her health and safety policies effectively and carries out thorough risk assessments for all activities and outings. She works collaboratively with her co- childminder and other providers, to provide consistent support for parents and children. The childminder monitors children's learning to notice any gaps in their development. She is aware of the importance of using funding appropriately and working with other professionals to provide children with any extra help, when necessary.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gets to know children well, and has a good understanding of their levels of development. She plans appropriate activities that help them achieve their next steps in learning. Children enjoy sharing books, and the childminder helps younger children to point to objects and repeat words. For instance, she encourages older children to talk about what is happening in the pictures, supporting their early reading skills well. The childminder provides inviting resources to encourage children to be curious and investigate. For example, children enjoy experiencing different textures as they explore baskets full of interesting objects. Children benefit from visits to places of interest in their local area, and celebrate other cultures beyond their own.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder uses thorough risk assessments to ensure children are safe and secure in her home and when traveling to schools and on outings. Children benefit from a welcoming learning environment, including a good range of resources for all ages and stages of development. The childminder is a good role model for children, helping them to share resources and play together amicably. For example, she praises children when they take turns on the climbing equipment and encourages them to keep each other safe. Children follow good hygiene routines and eat healthy, nutritious snacks and meals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy learning and become ready for future learning and starting school. They develop good physical skills. Older children climb and balance confidently, and younger children move around freely to explore the activities on offer. Children are confident about communicating their ideas and needs. Older children use a wide vocabulary to talk about their experiences, and younger ones quickly learn new words and phrases.
