This provision is good

 The childminder supervises children well. She regularly checks her home and garden to ensure children are not exposed to potential hazards and implements secure procedures to keep children safe on outings.  The childminder works closely with parents. She involves them in initial assessments and they are kept well informed of the progress their children make during their time with the childminder.  The childminder knows each child very well. She monitors their learning and continuously supports their development as she plays and interacts with them. The childminder uses ongoing praise to encourage and motivate children to learn. Children explore and investigate using a broad range of resources and activities.  The childminder provides a homely environment for children. They are happy and settled in her care. The childminder's interactions with children are warm and nurturing and their self-esteem is supported well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not fully developed a two-way flow of information between her and other settings that children attend in order to provide better consistency in their learning and development.  Occasionally, the children's play is interrupted by the organisation of daily routines.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance links with other settings that children attend to ensure that comprehensive information is shared to support continuity in the children's learning  improve opportunities for children to fully explore activities and resources without interruption so they can complete tasks to their satisfaction.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector took account of the written views of parents.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector spoke to childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members over 16 years of age and checked evidence of the qualifications of the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the signs that would cause concern about a child and the procedures to follow to ensure they are protected. The childminder is experienced and suitably qualified. She keeps her knowledge and practice up to date through networking with other childminders, attending training and independent research. She seeks and acts upon the views of children and parents to evaluate and enhance her practice. Written comments from parents show that they feel well informed and appreciate the care and guidance the childminder provides.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children enjoy playing with model farm animals, matching them to pictures and making their noises. The childminder promotes children's communication skills as she plays alongside them, correctly pronouncing words and skilfully extending children's vocabulary. She encourages them to copy and repeat words back clearly. Children develop an early understanding of how technology works as they use a touchscreen tablet to select nursery rhyme videos. Children delight in dancing to their chosen music. Information from regular observations and assessments is used to help identify any gaps in learning and targeted learning experiences are planned accordingly. As a result, children are supported to make good progress in their learning and development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder promotes the health and well-being of children. Children are learning how to manage risks, such as being safe in the sun. They understand the importance of hygiene routines, such as washing their hands before meal times. Children enjoy fresh fruit snacks and healthy meals while in the care of the childminder. The childminder takes children to groups where they are supported to develop their social skills and interact with children of their own age. Children have lots of opportunities to explore the world around them. They enjoy visits to parks, woodlands and places of local interest. Children learn to respect and celebrate each other's differences.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children thoroughly enjoy being outdoors and take part in a range of activities that promotes their physical development. They successfully steer and manoeuvre wheeled toys, are confident to climb and use large equipment. Early literacy skills are emerging as children make marks with chalk and water. They enjoy singing songs and rhymes and sharing books together. Children practice maths skills as they compare, match and group objects that are the same. They are developing the key skills needed in preparation for their future learning and for moving on to school.
