This provision is good
The highly qualified staff team uses their extensive knowledge of how children learn well and staff are passionate about their work. They use detailed observations and assessments of children's learning to accurately plan for what children need to learn next. Children plant seeds in the well-resourced garden. They demonstrate high levels of interest as they talk to staff about what the seeds might need to help them grow. This helps to promote children's understanding of nature and the world around them. Children have an excellent range of opportunities that helps to develop their physical skills. For example, they use wooden logs in the garden to create a pathway. Children cross the logs in a variety of ways, including hopping, leaping and jumping. Partnerships with parents are well established. Parents are very complimentary about the level of care their children receive. They use secure methods to access and

contribute to their children's progress summaries and observations. This helps to provide a continued approach to children's learning.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Staff, on occasions, do not provide children with enough time to finish their learning before moving on to the next part of the routine. Staff do not always organise large-group times well enough to help all children become highly engaged in their learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with staff and children during the inspection. The inspector held regular discussions with the nursery manager. She discussed self- evaluation and looked at relevant documentation, including evidence of the suitability of staff working in the nursery. The inspector spoke to parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The manager and staff team demonstrate a very good understanding of the local safeguarding procedures. They know how to respond should they have a concern about the welfare of a child in their care. Children demonstrate high levels of confidence and take regular risks as they play. Staff offer gentle reminders to children and explain how to climb up the large wooden slide the correct way. The manager provides regular supervision sessions and these are well embedded. She works closely with her staff team to identify and address any gaps in practice. This helps her to identify any training needs. Staff evaluate their learning after training sessions and use this to improve their practice. For instance, staff have enhanced the use of natural materials that help to develop children's imagination and thinking skills. Staff work very well with other early years providers where children attend. They share information about

individual children's needs. This helps to complement children's learning. The manager continually reviews the quality of the pre-school. Staff, children and parents contribute their ideas about what improvements they would like to see.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff's teaching is good and in some instances it is outstanding. Children demonstrate high levels of motivation and make choices from a very wide range of resources. For example, they use magnifying glasses and look under objects in the garden to look for insects. Staff show great enthusiasm and join in with children's celebrations when children make new discoveries in their learning. Children listen attentively to stories and join in with familiar phrases. They participate in exciting action songs and rhymes and use props animatedly. This helps to develop children's creative skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very well settled. They form secure friendships and work collaboratively with each other on self-chosen tasks. Children are independent and follow good hygiene practices. They put on their own aprons before playing with water and paint. Children proudly show others the work they create. Staff offer regular praise and encouragement as children play. This helps to promote children's self-esteem. Staff talk to children during mealtimes about their favourite foods and encourage them to make healthy choices.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They develop good literacy skills. For example, children make marks on the fence outside using water, paintbrushes and a wide variety of different coloured paints. They talk confidently about the different marks they make. Children are equipped with the key skills needed for future learning and their eventual move to school.
