This provision is good
The childminder is kind and caring and offers warmth and affection to children who attend. Children settle in quickly and feel secure in her home. The childminder knows individual children well; she observes and tracks their progress and plans for their learning. Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder offers children a good range of toys and resources to help them develop new skills that prepare them for the next stages in their learning and development. The childminder knows how to support healthy lifestyles. For example, she offers children daily opportunities to participate in physical activities to help them stay active. In addition, the childminder teaches children about the importance of healthy eating and good hygiene practices. The childminder is very cautious about children's safety and security. Thorough risk assessments take priority in her setting.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not regularly share information with parents about their children's learning from home and their next steps, to provide continuity in their development. At times, the childminder does not review her practice precisely enough, such as to identify further developments to raise the quality of the provision even further to benefit children in her care.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises that children use and checked the suitability of the toys and equipment. The inspector evaluated a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's evidence of training and children's records. The inspector took account of written feedback from parents and carers.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of child protection procedures and knows how to refer her concerns to appropriate agencies. She teaches children about how to stay safe. For example, children know what do in case of fire emergency. The childminder has effective arrangements in place for successful communication with the staff from other settings that children attend, to jointly plan for children's learning and provide consistent approach in their development. She continually seeks to improve her skills and knowledge. For example, she regularly meets with other childminders to share ideas about good practice and researches updates about early years matters.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder accurately assesses children's stage of development. She helps all children, including those who learn English as an additional language, develop good communication and language skills. For example, the childminder communicates with children clearly and offers them plenty of time to express themselves. She encourages children to master their physical skills and develop good stamina in preparation for further physical challenges. The childminder interacts with children well and follows their interests. She offers them good-quality time, for example, while reading stories or building with blocks. The childminder helps very young children to develop early mathematical skills through play. For instance, she encourages them to sort the blocks of the same colour into matching bowls.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder reassures children if they are unsettled and tired. For instance, she offers warm cuddles and encourages them to use their comforters, when needed. She offers children a wide range of opportunities to learn about diversity. For example, children explore similarities and differences between them, the languages they speak and the wider world. She is consistent with her approach and explains to children how to share and play nicely with one another. The childminder praises children for their achievements and positive behaviour.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children move around with confidence and enjoy choosing toys and resources by themselves. For example, they problem solve how to make a tall tower balance, and older children explore the globe and search for countries where their families come from. They talk about past experiences with enjoyment. Children learn how to cooperate and share with their friends and behave well. They are independent and eager to do this for themselves. Children learn a range of skills that helps them prepare for the next stages of their development and the eventual move to school.
