Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date and knows how to minimise risks to children. She reviews safeguarding practice regularly and implements policies consistently. The childminder monitors the practice of her assistant routinely and works closely with him to ensure that he follows procedures correctly. She welcomes feedback from children and parents to reflect their views as she evaluates her setting. Since her registration, the childminder has improved her knowledge of how to observe and evaluate children's play to support her assessment procedures effectively.

The childminder monitors children's progress carefully and uses this information effectively to plan for their next steps in learning. She provides a wide range of interesting activities that reflects children's individual interests. The childminder teaches children new skills. For example, she encourages children's recognition of different sizes as they enjoy exploring seaside objects following a holiday. This approach builds effectively on children's previous experiences and learning. The childminder works closely with parents to support children's learning and development at home. She exchanges information routinely with other settings that children attend to encourage consistency in their experiences.

p.3

The childminder helps children to feel secure and welcome in her setting. She has a kind and caring approach, and she supports children's friendships well. The childminder actively encourages parents to develop their understanding of children's welfare by keeping them up to date with a wide range of relevant information. She reflects diversity in her setting and encourages children to talk about their families and experiences to help them learn about other people. The childminder helps children to understand behavioural expectations and how to play safely. She teaches children about good nutrition and shares relevant information with parents to support healthy lifestyles.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Babies and toddlers develop good levels of confidence and they play well alongside each other. They use their own sounds, develop a range of vocabulary and begin to put words together. Babies and toddlers enjoy exploring an interesting range of objects and materials that encourages their hand-to-eye coordination and helps them learn about the world around them. They develop an awareness of early mathematics as they learn about sizes, shapes and numbers while building towers and exploring small-world environments.
