Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear about her role and responsibilities to keep children safe. She knows what to do should she have any concerns for a child's welfare and regularly updates her child protection knowledge, and that of her assistant. The childminder conducts daily safety checks to ensure that the environment, toys and equipment are suitable for children to use. She provides parents with detailed information about the service she offers, and her policies and procedures. The childminder checks children's individual progress to identify any gaps in their learning and development. She makes sure children receive any additional support they may need to help them catch up.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides children with a wide range of stimulating activities to help them develop a positive approach towards learning. The childminder talks to children and encourages them to speak and recall previous experiences at home and at her setting. Children use their imaginations and creative skills successfully. They concentrate as they diligently decorate gingerbread men with icing and sweets. The childminder supports them to think and share ideas as they pretend to shop for groceries. Children enjoy making marks with their fingers. They explore the texture of paint and discuss the shapes they make and the colours they use. Children competently turn on the machine which makes bubbles and excitedly catch and pop them. The childminder encourages children to lead their own play and to offer their ideas and suggestions.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder promotes children's health and physical development effectively. Children are happy, relaxed and have trusting relationships with the childminder. Good settling-in procedures ensure children are ready for the move from home to the childminder's setting. The childminder supervises the children well to ensure their safety. Children enjoy playing outside in the well-resourced garden. They excitedly ride on wheeled toys, and fill and empty containers with sand and water. The childminder teaches children about the natural world, for example, as they take part in growing vegetables which they pick and eat for snack. Children learn about good hygiene practices, for example, as they competently wash their hands before eating food.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stages of their learning. They are confident, enthusiastic and develop a 'can do' attitude to learning. Children listen attentively and follow simple instructions. Their early mathematical skills are emerging as they explore numbers, counting, shapes and sizes. Children learn about quantity as they water the plants and vegetables and measure how much water they use.
