This provision is good

 The childminder provides a happy and stimulating environment for children. She offers a wide range of resources and activities which supports children's learning and helps them to make good progress.  The childminder supports children's understanding of healthy lifestyles particularly well. For example, children enjoy growing vegetables in the cgarden, which they eat as part of a healthy balanced diet.  The childminder supports children's emotional well-being well. She is caring, attentive and responds well to their individual needs.  The childminder has good relationships with parents. She shares information to help provide good continuity of care. Parents' written feedback indicates that they are very happy with the care their children receive.  The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and identifies her strengths and areas she would like to improve, in order to further develop her practice.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The tracking of children's progress is not consistently as sharply focused as possible for the childminder to plan children's next steps and target teaching more precisely.  Although older children's communication and language skills are supported well, at times there are fewer opportunities for younger children to practise and hear simple language.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop further the arrangements to monitor children's progress and plan their next steps even more precisely, in order to help children reach their full potential  increase opportunities for younger children to further develop their language skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times.  The inspector observed and evaluated a learning activity with the childminder.  The inspector took account of parents' written comments.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including self-evaluation, policies and procedures.  The inspector viewed all areas of the premises available for children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the correct procedures to follow if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. She keeps up to date with current information and improves her knowledge and skills to benefit children. The childminder seeks the views of parents to help continually build on and improve her service. She finds out about children's interests when they start and provides activities which reflect their unique interests. The childminder works closely with parents, for example, as she shares children's achievements with them. She understands the importance of working with other early years professionals involved in children's care and learning, as the need arises, to meet children's needs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder engages well with children. She encourages them to solve problems. For example, as children make roads out of play dough, she asks them to think about how they can shape the track to prevent any blocks. The childminder builds on children's mathematical development well. For example, she encourages them to count and recognise shapes and colours during activities. Children who speak English as an additional language have frequent opportunities to use and hear their home languages. For example, the childminder sings songs and shares dual-language books with them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder helps children to develop positive patterns of behaviour. For example, she encourages them to use good manners, and supports them as they tidy up and learn to share. The childminder helps children learn about the lives of others. For example, they try different foods and celebrate events throughout the year. Children have good opportunities to develop their physical skills. For example, they join in yoga sessions, play in the childminder's garden and make frequent trips to the park. Children learn about how their bodies work and what foods are good for them. For example, they make fruit smoothies and talk about healthy food.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and development. They are motivated to learn and show good levels of concentration during activities. Children develop good levels of independence. For example, they are confident to do things for themselves, make choices and contribute their ideas. Children are well prepared for the next stages in learning, including their eventual move to school.
