This provision is good
Children enjoy learning and play in the childminder's homely environment. They independently access toys to support their current and developing interests. The childminder monitors children's progress and development well. She completes regular assessments to help identify and support any gaps in their achievements. Children form close bonds with the childminder and often seek cuddles and affection. This helps them to develop positive self-esteem, settle quickly and be ready to learn. The childminder regularly exchanges information with parents, such as care routines, and works effectively in partnership to support children. The childminder reflects well on her practice. She has made improvements since her last inspection. For example, she keeps up to date with what children enjoy and learn at home and complements these activities in her setting. This encourages children to be motivated to play and learn in all situations.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide children with enough opportunities to explore and investigate a range of media and materials in their independent play experiences. The childminder does not make the best use of spontaneous opportunities to extend children's understanding of numbers and simple problem solving.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children playing with their friends and the childminder. The inspector considered parents' views by reading written testimonials and spoke to children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about how she organises and manages her setting. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including training certificates and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date well. She completes a range of courses and discusses new ideas for her practice with childminder friends. This helps her to support children's ongoing learning needs. For example, after completing a sign language course, she is more able to support children with their communication skills. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to identify and report any concerns she has about children's safety and welfare. She refreshes her knowledge regularly to ensure she has up-to-date information to report concerns promptly if required.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is very aware of children's developmental needs and supports them well. She organises activities based on children's interests and challenges them to learn. For example, she provides stickers for children to make pictures. This also helps them to develop good hand-to-eye coordination in readiness for early handwriting. The childminder supports children's understanding of literacy effectively. She reads stories to children from a young age and helps older children to learn to write their names. During the inspection, children showed great pride when they wrote their name unaided and delighted in the praise given by the childminder.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a positive role model for children. She is attentive towards children and they are confident and happy. Children enjoy being with the childminder and eagerly tell her about their time at nursery. The childminder listens patiently, modelling positive social skills and extending children's language. She supports their self-confidence well, such as encouraging them to make choices about what fruit they would like to eat for snack. Children enjoy regular outdoor play in the childminder's garden or the local play area. This helps to build strong physical skills. The childminder works effectively with other settings children attend, exchanging information and discussing ways to support children consistently. This enables them to support children's emotional development securely.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy activities across all areas of learning. They learn to be independent and complete tasks on their own, such as changing into clothes that are more comfortable after nursery. Children develop a good understanding of health and personal hygiene. They understand the need to wash their hands 'to wash germs away' after toileting and before eating, and they choose fruit to eat. They develop good physical skills and control their bodies with confidence, such as climbing onto chairs to eat lunch. Children develop skills to prepare them for the next stage in learning and eventual move to school.
