This provision is good
The childminder has effective settling-in procedures. She uses comprehensive information about children's prior abilities well to identify any gaps in learning. This enables her to plan to help all children make good progress from the start. Children develop exceptionally warm and secure attachments to the childminder. She provides a remarkably safe and welcoming environment. Children are very happy, and smile and laugh. The childminder gives them lots of cuddles, affection and praise to build on their developing self-esteem exceptionally well. Children learn the skills they need to help them with their future learning. Children choose their own activities and are highly motivated to learn. The childminder is exceedingly successful in supporting children's emotional development and levels of confidence. She prepares children sensitively for school. The childminder continually evaluates and reflects on her practice. She seeks the views

of children and parents to help her identify and tackle areas to develop. This helps her to enhance learning opportunities for children.?
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities to challenge and extend older children's understanding of mathematics further. The childminder does not support and encourage young children as well as she could to remain consistently engaged in meaningful play during planned activities.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed interactions between the childminder and children. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector sampled documentation, including planning, children's development records, policies and procedures. The inspector considered parents' written and verbal views. The inspector viewed the areas used by children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an exceptional understanding of safeguarding. She has excellent procedures and knows who to contact and what to do if she has a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder keeps up to date effectively with legislation and changing practice. For example, she receives emails and online updates, and conducts her own research. The childminder makes effective use of systems for planning and assessment, which help children to have valuable learning opportunities throughout the day. The childminder works closely with parents and shares information with them to help continue children's learning at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder adapts activities effectively for children's different ages and abilities. For example, she uses simple words so younger children understand, and encourages older children to recall past events. The childminder knows the children very well and plans effectively for their individual needs. She encourages children to be independent in preparation for school. For example, children choose their own snack and pour their drinks. They have a wide range of resources to choose from and explore using magnets and toys with buttons, developing an understanding of how things work.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder makes excellent use of opportunities to support children's understanding of the importance of healthy lifestyles. For example, when doing exercise, she shows children how the heart beats faster and explains how exercise keeps you healthy and fit. The childminder has an exceptional understanding of how to keep children safe. For example, after attending training, she shares information with parents to explain how to protect children from potential dangers. The childminder supports children extremely well to understand how to keep safe. For example, she teaches them how to use scissors safely. The childminder conducts regular fire drills. She uses an imitation smoke alarm app on her mobile phone, so children become familiar with the noise and know exactly what to do during a fire evacuation drill.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn good speech and language skills through everyday routines. For example, the childminder points out lizards and dragonflies on a child's beaker. Children are encouraged to take turns and play cooperatively. They learn how to share and be kind. They learn to be tolerant and respectful of others and their beliefs. Children have an excellent awareness of how to manage their behaviour and recognise the needs of others. For example, during play, older children help younger ones put on play shoes.
