This provision is good
The childminder uses her good teaching skills to develop children's communication and language effectively. For example, she engages them in purposeful conversation and extends their vocabulary during enjoyable activities, such as water play. Children benefit from the individual attention they receive from the caring and nurturing childminder and develop close relationships with her. They are well settled and confident. The childminder has clear expectations and helps young children to learn how to play together and be caring towards each other. The children are well behaved. The childminder forges strong relationships with parents. She values and respects parents as partners in their children's learning. They exchange detailed information about children's individual needs and progress. Children are making good progress from their starting points and acquire the key skills ready for their next stage in learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder has a self-evaluation system, she does not make full use of it at times to identify and set clearer targets to further improve her practice. The childminder is still in the process of embedding her programme of professional development to focus on improving the quality of teaching even further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children and the childminder in the indoor and outdoor environments. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including children's records, policies and health and safety records. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps up to date with current and new legislation and is clear about what she should do if she has a concern about a child in her care. Overall, the childminder seeks information from other professionals and parents to help her evaluate her practice. She monitors children's progress effectively to identify and address any gaps in learning quickly. The childminder works closely with parents to support their children's learning and development at home. For example, she has helped parents to develop good sleep time routines.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children very well and uses this information to accurately assess children's achievements and next steps in learning. She plans enjoyable activities that are based on what children can already do and what they are learning next. The childminder enthusiastically joins in play with the children and effectively supports and extends their learning. For example, she encourages children to count the chalks as they replace them in the bucket. The childminder names and talks about the objects that young children show an interest in, developing their language skills well. Children develop good physical skills as they play. For example, they enjoy pouring water and pushing buggies.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children play and learn in a very safe and secure environment. The childminder provides a wide range of stimulating resources that particularly encourages sensory exploration and creativity. Children are keen to play and learn. The childminder is skilled in encouraging children to develop their independence skills. For example, they competently select their own toys and help pouring water into the water tray. The childminder uses a calm and gentle approach with children, giving them consistent praise and encouragement. Children have opportunities for fresh air and physical exercise, such as when they play in the garden and go on trips to local parks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young children, including those who speak English as an additional language, are developing good communication and social skills. They are confident to approach visitors to show their toys and name objects. Children concentrate well and follow their own ideas when playing. For example, they explore what happens when sand is poured into a flower pot. They enjoy a range of mark-making activities, such as painting and chalking. Young children are beginning to count and recognise colours and shapes. They are well prepared for their next stage of learning and school.
