This provision is good
Children form close and trusting relationships with the childminder and her family. They make good progress and develop the skills they need for the future. The monitoring of children's progress is very thorough. The childminder's assessments identify precisely what children need to learn next and ensure that all areas of learning are promoted. Children behave well and play harmoniously. They learn to share, take turns with toys and speak kindly to others. The childminder develops very effective partnerships with parents. They work closely together to meet each child's care and learning needs through a consistent approach. The childminder frequently shares information so activities are continued at home. Children learn to respect the differences between themselves and others. They play with resources and look at books that teach them about people and the wider world. The childminder accurately evaluates her practice and takes account of the views of

parents and children to improve her service.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to support children's expressive language and thinking skills. The childminder does not always offer varied opportunities to encourage children to explore and experiment with a wide range of sensory materials.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during indoor activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector observed a focused activity with the childminder and discussed the children's progress and achievements. The inspector spoke to the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector reviewed evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder. She discussed self-evaluation, risk assessment and policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the views of parents from those spoken to on the day and from their written responses to surveys organised by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder maintains a good understanding of child protection issues. She understands her responsibilities regarding preventing children from being drawn into harmful situations. The childminder carries out thorough risk assessments of her home to identify and minimise any potential hazards to children. She is well qualified and uses ongoing training courses effectively to develop her childcare knowledge and improve the quality of teaching and care. The childminder builds good links with the other settings that children attend. This helps to promote continuity in children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of children's development needs. Children extend their learning and easily select additional play materials in the well-equipped playroom. They are creative and play imaginatively with a variety of props, small figures and play dough. The childminder helps children to learn to count, calculate and name colours and shapes. Children investigate how things work. For example, they find out the buttons and levers they need to use to make a crane move. They go on regular outings and visit the local school playground. Children socialise with other similarly aged children and develop their understanding of their immediate community.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder works closely with parents to ensure that she has a wealth of knowledge about individual children prior to them attending. This contributes to children feeling very settled and motivated to learn. The childminder has a kind and nurturing approach. Plenty of praise and encouragement are used to raise children's confidence and self-esteem. The childminder has devised simple house rules so that children understand about the need to behave responsibly and safely. Children learn about healthy living and good hygiene through following positive daily care routines. They eat nutritious meals and any special dietary needs are catered for. There are plenty of opportunities for exercise and fresh air. Children take part in energetic play in the garden or go on outings to local parks. They use different climbing apparatus to develop their physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress in their learning and development. They are inquisitive and eager to learn and investigate. For example, they manipulate play dough and learn to use cutting tools. Children demonstrate increasing independence. They pour their own drinks and make their own decisions as they play. Children who tend to be shy develop their confidence in social situations. They enjoy activities that support them in developing skills for the future and in readiness for starting school.
