This provision is good
The childminder places a strong emphasis on developing children's language and communication skills. Children clearly enjoy books and see themselves as readers from a very young age. The childminder has formed close, caring relationships with children. She is very attentive to children's individual needs. Children show that they feel safe and secure while having fun and enjoying themselves in her care. The childminder has a very positive attitude and high-quality interactions with children reinforce this. Her encouragement helps to motivate children as they persevere with activities. This is preparing children very well for the next stage in their learning. The childminder uses local activity sessions to support children's confidence in new social situations. They enjoy meeting with other children and are developing their understanding of sharing and taking turns with their favourite resources.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Sometimes, the childminder places more importance on the outcome of an activity. This means that she does not always focus her strong teaching on the processes that children clearly enjoy. Although the childminder recognises the strengths of her setting, she has not fully considered how best parent and child views can be used to support her continued improvement.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact of this on children's learning. The inspector and the childminder jointly evaluated an activity. The inspector took account of the views of parents and children provided through written feedback. The inspector spoke with children and the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of documents, including the childminder's evaluation of her service and evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is suitably qualified in her role. She has completed recent training and refreshed her knowledge and understanding, particularly relating to child protection. This has also helped the childminder to understand more about the wide range of potential risks to children's welfare. The childminder talks freely about what she has learnt and how she uses this knowledge to ensure children's safety is effectively promoted. The childminder also knows and understands the local arrangements for referring any concerns or seeking advice if needed.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses a range of teaching strategies to support children's good progress. She teaches children new skills, which help them to succeed in their learning and meet their goals. For example, the childminder shows children how to thread beads. She then watches and gives further instructions as they try for themselves. At the same time, she introduces new mathematical vocabulary, such as cylinder. The childminder helps children to develop their physical skills as they show increasing control using one-handed equipment and tools. Parents receive regular feedback, which outlines what the childminder has observed each session and over the term. For example, she tells them what children have learnt and the activities they have enjoyed, such as den building. The childminder also shares what she plans to do next. This effective communication helps parents to be fully informed about their children's progress and development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very at ease in the childminder's care. They freely move between areas in her home choosing what they want or asking if they cannot see it. The childminder completes regular practice evacuation drills, which help children to know how to act in an emergency. Children recognise their own physical needs, such as being thirsty or needing the toilet. They also know and follow good hygiene routines. The childminder provides a healthy range of meals and snacks. The childminder uses local facilities, such as parks and the children's centre. This helps children to be aware of the wider environment.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing key skills in all areas of learning in readiness for school. They make their own choices and decisions. They listen carefully and follow instructions. For example, they learn how to make mechanical toys work. Children use props to support their role play and make links to their own experiences. They are beginning to recognise words, such as their own name and talk about what they have painted and who it is for.
