The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her responsibilities to help keep children safe. She knows the reporting procedures to follow should she have any concerns about their well-being. The childminder seeks and acts on the views of parents and other professionals effectively, for example, to help her evaluate what she does and to target areas for improvement. The childminder uses knowledge gained from training and from reading relevant information on the internet to benefit children and their families. For example, she has made positive changes to the provision for two-year-olds to improve outcomes for them.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder identifies children's starting points and makes accurate observations and assessments of their progress. She makes good use of the information gained to plan interesting activities indoors and outdoors. This helps to motivate children to learn. Children enjoy being in the garden, playing and listening to favourite stories. Their communication and language skills are developing successfully. Indoors, children practise their early literacy skills. For instance, they engage in enjoyable activities to develop their drawing and early writing skills. The childminder supports children's mathematical skills effectively. For example, children had fun measuring and mixing the ingredients for their cupcakes, using numbers purposefully. Children worked well together and shared lots of smiles and laughter.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children learn about healthy lifestyles. For instance, the childminder encourages them to play outdoors and to keep themselves hydrated. She takes them to local parks and soft- play areas regularly, supporting their social and physical skills. The childminder is very kind and gentle with children, and gives lots of praise for their achievements and efforts. For example, she celebrated their success in completing a challenging jigsaw puzzle. This helps to build on children's confidence. The childminder responds to children's emotional needs and interests well. For example, she is quick to recognise when children need some quiet time, cuddles and reassurance from her.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress. They are sociable and behave well. They are polite and caring and make good friendships. Children benefit from the many opportunities to express themselves creatively. For example, they enjoy taking part in role play and painting clay moulds using a variety of tools. Children show good concentration skills and are keen to join in with the activities provided. Overall, children gain important skills to prepare them for the next stage in their learning, including their move on to school.
