This provision is good

 The childminder uses highly sensitive ways to help children settle in her care. Parents are encouraged to spend as much time with the childminder as they feel comfortable with, before leaving their child for the first time.  The childminder effectively uses feedback she gathers from parents and other professionals to help her evaluate the care and education she provides. She is motivated to continually improve her setting.  Teaching is good. The childminder introduces new words and phrases in her commentary to very young children. This is one way she supports children to develop their emerging language development.  The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of how to keep children safe. She continually assesses risk in her home and on outings and removes or reduces hazards.  Children feel valued by the childminder. They enjoy looking at photographs of themselves and their close family members on a wall display. The childminder includes

children's siblings, even those who do not attend her provision, in celebrations, conversations and discussions.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not specifically focused on continuing to develop her already good teaching skills to the highest level.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 focus continued professional development more precisely to help raise the quality of teaching to an even higher level.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home. She spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector checked the evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other household members. She looked at documentation, such as the safeguarding procedures and risk assessments.  The childminder carried out a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector took into consideration the views of parents recorded in letters, emails and questionnaires.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder follows the robust procedures she has put in place. She knows how to report any concerns she may have about children's welfare. The childminder works closely with other professionals, such as health visitors and teachers, who are involved with the children she cares for. This helps to maintain continuity in care and education. The childminder shares ideas with other local childminders and uses online information to help her keep up to date with changes in legislation and statutory requirements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder gathers detailed information from parents about what their children like and can already do when they first start in her care. This helps her provide appropriate equipment and activities to support children's learning right from the start. The childminder follows children's interests and emerging skills. Young children enthusiastically use large building bricks. They begin to work out how to join the bricks together for themselves, helping to develop their muscles in their hands. The childminder understands that children learn in a variety of ways. She regularly takes children to museums and to explore in the local countryside.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder follows key routines, such as sleep times, that children have at home. Consequently, children feel secure, settle quickly and thrive in the childminder's care. The childminder sensitively involves the whole family and other settings children attend to find ways to build children's self-esteem. She uses highly effective ways to promote respect and an environment in which children behave very well. This is replicated at home and in other settings too. For example, the childminder uses books to help children explore feelings and express their anxieties. Children enjoy fresh air and exercise. The childminder takes advantage of all weather conditions to maximise children's experiences, such as splashing in puddles in wet weather.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. When the time comes, they are ready for their next stage in learning at nursery or at school. Children are confident and motivated to learn. They identify letters and numerals and confidently share their thoughts and ideas with others. Children are able to use pencils and scissors and understand that they can find new information in books. From an early age, children make choices for themselves. They independently return to favourite activities, helping them build upon their skills and extend their learning.
