Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector viewed the areas in the home used for childminding. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents from written statements. The inspector looked at all relevant documentation, such as children's records, policies and procedures and evidence of the suitability of those living on the premises.

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures to follow if she has a concern about the welfare of a child in her care. Effective measures are in place to help to keep children safe. The childminder uses ongoing risk assessments. These help her to identify and address any hazards to help maintain the safety of children at all times. The childminder continually reviews the activities and experiences she offers children to ensure they reflect their interests and stage of development. She regularly reflects on the provision to make improvements.

For example, she sits with children as they play, introducing new vocabulary and repeating words back to them. Children are provided with many opportunities to be creative. They enjoy exploring and creating with different media and are clearly proud of their creations. Young children develop their literacy skills very well. They choose particular favourite books and listen avidly while the childminder reads. Children develop a good awareness of the world around them. They enjoy a huge variety of exciting outings to places of interest.
p.3

The childminder gathers information about children's care, routines and interests from parents when they first start. She understands and is sensitive to children's individual care needs and meets them well. Children respond well to the childminder's sensitive manner and help to tidy away toys when they are finished with them. The childminder raises children's awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles. Daily opportunities are provided for children to take part in physical activities, such as playing in the park. Children's independence is very well supported and they are encouraged to be independent at every possible opportunity.

All children make good progress in all areas of learning. Children make plenty of independent decisions about their play and experiences. They demonstrate good levels of concentration and enthusiasm as they play. Children communicate well and express themselves effectively. They use their imaginations well to express themselves during play. For example, they act out scenarios, such as cooking meals in the role play kitchen.
