This provision is good

 The childminder is experienced and qualified. She uses her knowledge and skills to provide consistently good care for children.  Children are extremely happy, settled and confident in the highly welcoming, homely, stimulating environment. The childminder provides excellent support to promote their emotional well-being.  Children make good progress. The childminder knows each of them very well. She monitors their learning and continuously supports their development as she plays and interacts with them.  The childminder understands the importance and value of continual professional development and has a positive approach to this.  Parents speak very highly of the childminder and the care she provides for their children. For example, they say that they would, 'Highly recommend' her and describe her as, 'A fantastic childminder, a good educator and a top class caterer!'

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not gather in-depth information about what children already know and can do when they first start.  The childminder does not always make the most of her good partnerships with parents to help them become highly involved in their child's learning in the setting.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 gather more comprehensive information from parents about children's achievements and skills on entry  explore additional ways to engage parents in their child's learning in the setting.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder understands the importance and value of continual professional development and has a positive approach to this. Parents' and children's views of the provision are sought and are used to bring about change and development to her practice. Good partnerships with other providers are in place to support children's care and learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge updated so that she can ensure children's safety and welfare. She knows the signs that would cause concern about a child and the procedures to follow to ensure they are protected.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses information gained from observations well to assess children's levels of development and identify the next steps in their learning. She uses good teaching techniques to support children's learning. The childminder provides stimulating resources and experiences related to children's interests to encourage their involvement. She gives children opportunities to be independent in play and knows when to become involved to support, stimulate or extend their play. A strong focus is on developing children's language and communication skills. Children are encouraged to initiate conversations. The childminder respects their thinking time and interacts well with them to build their vocabulary.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder builds very strong relationships with the children. She is extremely positive and caring and acts as a good role model. Children behave exceptionally well and develop effective social skills. They treat each other with respect and know and understand about the importance of being kind and caring. The childminder actively promotes the health, welfare and well-being of children. Children have an excellent understanding of how to manage risks, such as being safe in the sun and take an active part in their own hygiene routines. They develop high levels of independence and show great confidence and pride in their own ability.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are becoming well prepared for school and develop the key skills to give them the best possible start. They are motivated, enthusiastic learners who enjoy new challenges and experiences. They learn to listen attentively and respond well to instructions. For example, they concentrate as the childminder demonstrates how to hold the chicks safely and carefully copy her actions. They use their imaginations well as they engage in role play and dressing up and play cooperatively together as they introduce storylines into their play.
