This provision is good
Staff promote strong partnerships with school teachers. This helps to ensure important information is shared and helps them to continue to complement children's care and learning experiences. Children continue to develop the skills they need to support them with their learning at school. Children enjoy being at the club. They happily separate from their parents and quickly settle into their chosen activity. They say that they have lots of fun and enjoy playing with their friends. Children's good health and physical development are promoted well. They have regular opportunities to be active in the fresh air when using the school facilities, such as the playground. Parents are extremely happy with the service provided by the club. They say that the staff are excellent and that they are kept informed about their children's time at the club.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The process for professional development is not sharply focused enough on raising the quality of staff's practice to the highest level. Staff do not always provide opportunities for children to do things for themselves, in order to enable them to build on their growing independence skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the staff engaging with children in a range of activities. The inspector held discussions with the provider and staff. She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of staff working in the club. The inspector spoke to children and parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. All staff have received child protection training. They are aware of the possible indicators of abuse and are confident with the procedure to follow, in order to share concerns about children's welfare. Robust recruitment and vetting procedures are followed. Staff are checked for their suitability to work with children. The environment is checked daily to ensure that it is safe and suitable for the children to use. They are provided with regular individual support meetings where they can reflect on their role and share any concerns they may have. Managers and staff regularly review their practice. They share ideas between each other and other settings owned by the same provider. This helps to identify priorities to secure further and ongoing improvements. Staff's good interactions with parents during arrival times helps build positive relationships.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Key persons gather important information from parents before children start at the club. This helps them to provide appropriate activities that reflect children's current interests. Staff gather good information about the progress children make. This includes photographs of children engaged in activities and samples of their work. This information is regularly shared with parents. Staff help children to build on their communication and language skills. They engage children in meaningful conversations and encourage them to talk about what they are doing. Children enjoy having the choice of playing indoors and outdoors. They participate in a range of activities that includes tabletop games, team games and role play. Children's confidence and self-esteem is built very well. Staff offer children lots of praise and encouragement, and actively get involved with their play. This helps to develop children's 'have a go' attitude to learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Staff sensitively support children to understand the rules of the setting. As a result, children's behaviour is good and they form strong friendships with each other and staff. Children of different ages enjoying playing and socialising together. They are confident and happy to talk to staff and visitors about what they are doing or what they would like to do next. Children are supervised well as they are escorted by staff to their classrooms at the start of the school day. Children learn to make healthy food choices as they enjoy a range of foods at breakfast time. Staff know the children well, including their medical and dietary requirements. Children's good health is further promoted as staff remind the children of the importance of washing their hands before they eat.
