This provision is good
The childminder creates a welcoming, visually attractive and interesting environment for children. Children show a strong sense of belonging when they move around the home confidently and independently. The childminder is kind and caring. She has a good relationship with the children. Children readily go to her for a cuddle when they get upset and need comfort. The childminder competently observes children and uses what she finds out about them to plan for their next steps in learning. She provides learning experiences that help all children continue to make good progress from their starting points. The childminder successfully involves parents in contributing to the observation and assessment of children. She meets children's care and learning needs effectively. The childminder continues to improve her knowledge and teaching skills. For example, children are benefiting from new ideas the childminder gained at a recent training

course. The childminder now makes greater use of innovative physical activities to increase children's coordination and control of their bodies.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder misses opportunities to extend children's emerging early writing skills further. The childminder does not consistently make the most of opportunities for children to explore, investigate and build further on their awareness of the natural world.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's activities indoors and in the garden. The inspector sampled children's learning records and other relevant documentation. The inspector took account of the views of parents from written and verbal feedback. The inspector discussed childcare practice with the childminder. The inspector talked to children at appropriate times.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of safeguarding procedures up to date and knows what to do if she has a concern. She is very reflective and evaluates her provision successfully. For example, she monitors children's progress consistently and addresses any emerging gaps in their learning successfully. When necessary, the childminder adapts activities to help ensure she is providing learning experiences that are challenging but achievable for every child. The childminder reviews and improves resources to meet children's changing interests and abilities. For example, she has created a board with a variety of locks and handles that children explore and manipulate with increasing control. Since the previous inspection, the childminder has enhanced opportunities for children to build on their awareness of numbers and letters. For example, children now use magnetic letters and play with numbered stones.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gets to know children's abilities and interests well. She interacts effectively with children and extends their learning. For example, when looking at books about animals she builds on children's vocabulary by introducing new words, such as 'camouflage'. The childminder praises children when they achieve and gives them the confidence to try new skills. She provides mathematical experiences that interest children, such as using rulers for measuring. Young children confidently use numbers in play, for example, when they count along with older children as they measure objects.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder successfully teaches children how to manage their feelings and deal with disputes in an acceptable way. For example, she encourages young children to say to another child when they do not like something instead of shouting. The childminder provides plenty of active play and exercise. Children develop good physical skills, such as climbing, running, kicking balls and doing bunny hops. The childminder extends children's independence effectively. For example, young children learn how to put on shoes and fetch their drinks when they get thirsty. The childminder successfully teaches children about the importance of healthy lifestyles and the impact of good foods on their bodies.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are prepared well for the move on to school. They are good communicators who express their needs confidently to adults. Children try things themselves but readily ask for help when they need it. They behave well and respond positively to instructions. Children are emotionally secure and have good social skills. They share resources with their friends and put away items they have finished with. Children enjoy learning and eagerly join in with activities, such as bug hunts and looking at books.
