p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder works successfully with the other settings children attend to support children's learning and development effectively. Children make good progress in their learning from the start.  Children develop very good independence. For example, they help to set the table for meals, chop their own foods and serve themselves confidently and efficiently.  Children behave well and develop positive attitudes towards others. They listen, share, help and play well with their friends.  The childminder monitors and reflects on the quality of her provision to make improvements. She has addressed the weakness from the last inspection. For example, she provides younger children with a greater range of activities to explore, such as in the garden.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the best use of opportunities to extend children's understanding of shapes further.  The childminder does not consistently gain detailed information from all parents about children's development at home, to help build on children's learning further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make the best use of opportunities to extend children's mathematical skills even further, particularly regarding shapes  encourage parents to share more information about their child's ongoing development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's interaction with the children. She also discussed the effectiveness of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector observed the management of children's care routines.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records and talked to children at appropriate times.  The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and discussed her knowledge of the requirements of the early years foundation stage.  The inspector took account of parents' views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibilities to safeguard children's welfare, and she keeps up to date with new guidance. She knows the correct procedures to follow in the event of any concerns about a child, to help protect them from harm. The childminder uses professional development to improve her knowledge and teaching skills. For example, she has introduced new techniques to encourage children to listen, think and talk more effectively. She maintains secure play areas and helps children to learn about keeping themselves safe in play.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder observes and monitors children's learning accurately and keeps parents informed of their progress. She uses her good teaching skills to keep children interested and achieving well. For example, the childminder encourages children to join in the stories they read and to predict what will happen next. She extends their learning further, such as teaching children new words from the books they read about the lives of people from other countries and faiths. Children explore and lead their own play confidently. For instance, they experiment mixing paints together to make different colours and use containers to explore water.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. She supports them in feeling secure, such as helping them to find other ways to soothe themselves as they learn to rely less on their comforters. The childminder supports children's health and physical development well. For example, children enjoy healthy meals, lots of outdoor play and physical activities, and learn about sun safety. The childminder encourages children to feel confident about themselves and to learn about one another's lives. For instance, she encourages children to talk about home life, such as at their sociable mealtimes.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident and motivated to learn. They develop the skills for their future learning and are well prepared to move on to school. They learn to manage many tasks for themselves and are keen to learn new skills. Children count in their play and learn to solve practical problems for themselves. They write regularly, learn about letters and the sounds that letters represent, and communicate well.
