This provision is good
The childminder has a strong understanding of the importance of working with other agencies and professionals, in order to promote children's development and welfare. The childminder understands how to promote children's learning. She interacts well with children as they play and uses effective questioning skills to develop their understanding. As a result, children are making good progress. Children form secure relationships with the childminder. She is a good role model and manages children's behaviour very positively. Children learn to be kind and considerate and they have good manners. The childminder provides a welcoming environment for children to learn and play in. The home is well resourced and toys are easily accessible to help to promote children's growing independence.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Parents are not as fully involved in their children's learning as possible. The childminder does not fully help children to understand how good hygiene practices contribute to their good health.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

build on the range of methods in place that encourages parents to contribute towards children's learning. strengthen the already good opportunities that help children learn further about how good practices with regard to hygiene contribute to their good health.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder and her assistant. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a secure understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures. They can identify signs and symptoms of abuse and know who to contact should they have a concern about the welfare of a child. Robust risk assessments are undertaken and all areas of the childminder's home are safe and secure. The childminder monitors her assistant's practice and ensures that she has the necessary training and skills so that children benefit from her care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant place high emphasis on the promotion of children's mathematical skills. For example, they count the number of sausages they use as they make pizza. They talk about the different sizes of the knives they use to spread the tomato puree. Children are enthusiastic and keen learners. The childminder actively joins in with their play, sitting on the floor and engaging them in different activities. The childminder skilfully supports children's learning during their play and exploration. She asks questions about what they have found as they use the magnifying glass. She builds on their further learning as she encourages them to search for insects in the bushes. The childminder completes regular observations and uses this information to plan activities based on children's needs. She shares children's progress with parents and tries hard to encourage parents to play an active role in their child's learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and confident in the childminder's care. All children's care needs are agreed with parents and ongoing daily conversations ensure children's needs are continually met. The childminder tailors her routines to reflect the preferences and needs of the children. For example, children who prefer to play outside may choose to be in the garden at any time. Children have ample opportunities to mix with other children and adults. For instance, during weekly visits to playgroups, outings to the shops and to local parks. This contributes to children developing a view of the wider world. The childminder praises children often. This helps to raise their confidence, increase their self-esteem and motivate them to keep trying.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress within the range of development expected for their age. They are enthusiastic learners who are eager to take part in both planned and self- chosen activities. They show good motivation and concentration. Children are developing the skills and attitudes which prepare them for the next stage in their learning and their eventual move to school.
