This provision is good

 The childminder provides a wide variety of stimulating resources and activities which reflects children's interests and engages them well.  The childminder shares positive relationships with parents. She communicates with them regularly and encourages a shared approach to children's learning. Feedback from parents indicates they are very happy with the care and support their children receive.  Children enjoy their time with the childminder. She is nurturing and very attentive to their individual needs. Children approach the childminder with ease and are happy, relaxed and secure in her care.  The childminder reflects well on her practice and reviews her provision effectively, taking the views of parents and her assistant into account. She effectively identifies her strengths and areas for development to improve outcomes for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder misses some opportunities to encourage children to use their home languages to further develop their learning experiences.  The tracking of children's progress is not consistently as sharply focused as possible to support the childminder to target teaching precisely.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make better of use opportunities to use children's home languages to support their communication skills and learning even further  develop further the arrangements to monitor children's progress to target teaching even more precisely to help them reach their full potential.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed the premises and resources available for children.  The inspector observed the childminder's interaction with children and talked to the childminder and children at appropriate times.  The inspector took account of parents' verbal and written views.  The inspector competed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation the childminder uses to support the practice, including self-evaluation.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has recently updated her child protection knowledge. She knows the signs that would cause her concern about a child's welfare and understands what steps to take. The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to making improvements. She completes training and reads relevant publications to help strengthen her service. For example, she has developed her understanding of expectations of children's behaviour and supports them to behave well. The childminder works closely with her assistant and shares her knowledge and information from training courses to ensure a consistent approach. The childminder maintains the required paperwork to help protect children's welfare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children are confident speakers. The childminder continually talks to them and helps develop their communication skills. For example, she uses descriptive words to help increase their vocabulary. The childminder ask questions and encourages children to explore and investigate further. For example, during a modelling dough activity, she asks them about the colours and shapes they use. Children thoroughly enjoy imaginative play. For example, they have fun pretending to make tea for the childminder and their friends. They explore how things work and why, for instance, as they manoeuvre cars up and down slopes on the toy garage. The childminder recognises the importance of working with other settings and professionals who are involved in children's are and learning, when the need arises.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a welcoming and nurturing environment. Children behave very well for their age. They understand what is expected of them, show kindness, share and help tidy toys. The childminder helps children learn to respect others. For example, they celebrate different events throughout the year to learn about beliefs other than their own. Children are developing healthy lifestyles. For example, they develop physical skills during trips to the park. They learn about healthy food as they enjoy healthy meals and study posters of fruit.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress in their learning. They enjoy their time with the childminder. Children are confident and motivated to learn. They explore their environment and make decisions in their play. They join in enthusiastically at story time and verbalise their ideas and observations. They are able to recognise shapes and colours well. Children are quickly acquiring skills in readiness for the next stage in their learning and eventual move to school.
