This provision is good

 The childminder has a thorough knowledge of the needs and interests of children in her care. She provides a wide range of exciting, age-appropriate activities to help all children make good progress from their starting points.  Parents express good levels of satisfaction with the quality of their children's care and development. The childminder regularly shares information with parents about children's achievements and progress. This helps to promote continuity of care and learning.  Children develop very secure emotional bonds with the childminder. They are happy and feel safe in the welcoming environment. Children's behaviour is good.  Babies and young children receive plenty of enjoyable activities to encourage them to explore and investigate using all of their senses.  The childminder works successfully in partnership with other settings and professionals to help meet children's learning and support needs.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder has completed recent training courses, she does not sharply focus her professional development, to help her aim at achieving the highest-quality provision.  Occasionally, planning for children does not always focus precisely on what they need to learn next.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance professional development plans to help raise the overall quality of practice to an even higher level  enhance planning even further and focus more sharply on children's next steps in their learning and development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of the adults living on the premises.  The inspector took account of written views of parents.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her responsibilities to protect children from harm and who to contact should she have concerns about a child's welfare. She follows comprehensive policies and procedures to help keep children safe, both in her home and on any outings. The childminder reviews these policies annually to ensure they are relevant and up to date. She shares them with parents so they have a good understanding of the service the childminder provides. The childminder meets with other childminders to share good practice and completes some professional development courses, including mandatory training.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder interacts very effectively with children. She offers a wide range of fun activities to motivate children to explore and learn. For example, she provides children with plenty of opportunities to investigate and be active outdoors. The play opportunities she provides stimulate children's senses and motivate them to learn. Children enjoy a wealth of opportunities for outdoor play in the childminder's garden. They plant seeds and care for the growing plants, this includes vegetables, which they later taste. This helps to increase their understanding of the world and the importance of leading healthy lifestyles. The childminder supports the development of children's communication and language skills well. Babies happily babble and move to the sound of the many songs the childminder introduces. The childminder models how to count and uses numbers during children's play, helping to promote the development of their early mathematical skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder makes the most of daily conversations to keep parents informed about their child's care and development at the setting. She gathers information from parents about their child's routines and likes and dislikes from the start. Children quickly settle happily at the childminder's home. The childminder is attentive to their needs and offers frequent cuddles and reassurance, which helps children to develop their confidence and self-esteem. The snacks and meals she provides are nutritious and well balanced. Children benefit from fresh air and exercise daily. For example, she takes children on regular visits local parks and places of interest. They develop a good understanding of healthy lifestyles.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning. They enjoy playing and learning and develop key skills in readiness for the eventual move on to nursery and school. For example, children attend local groups, where they learn to socialise with other children.
