This provision is good
The childminder understands well the progress children make and knows where they need to move forward in their learning. She carefully observes children to find out about their interests and personalities, to support each child effectively. The childminder works in partnership with parents. She meets with them when children start in her setting and gathers information to find out what children can do when they begin with her. Children make good progress. They develop confidence in the setting and older children use language clearly to communicate and to ask questions. The childminder ensures children have healthy experiences in her care. For example, children enjoy trips to parks where they meet physical challenges and benefit from exercise. Children develop positive attitudes towards healthy foods. The childminder ensures her professional knowledge is up to date and reviews her policies accordingly. For example, she has attended training regarding recent changes

to safeguarding procedures and has widened her knowledge of how to protect children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not take full advantage of opportunities to build on children's independence skills. The childminder does not make full use of opportunities to help children develop their thinking skills and express their thoughts and ideas.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and discussed the provision for outdoor play. The inspector talked with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and her suitability checks. The inspector held discussions with the childminder in relation to observations of the children's play, learning and progress.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands clearly the signs that could cause concerns about a child's well-being. She knows her local authority guidelines for the procedures to follow in the event of such a concern. The childminder uses robust risk assessment to keep children safe, for instance, she supervises children well when they are on outings. The childminder continually reflects on the success of her practice based on the views of children and parents. For example, she adapts her provision to meet the interests of children, such as taking resources outside for children who prefer to learn in the outdoor environment.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides children with a wide range of learning experiences. For example, they visit woodlands frequently and develop their social skills when they attend a range of groups. The childminder offers children opportunities to find out about the world around them. For instance, they observe the daily changes that happen to the frogspawn and tadpoles they are caring for. The childminder successfully develops children's understanding about individual differences in society. For example, when children ask questions about the clothing people wear they go to the library and research different beliefs to find out more.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder forms strong relationships with children, through which they feel secure. New children grow in confidence quickly when in the childminder's care. The children learn to play together well, they show an understanding of the need to share toys and take turns in their interactions. The childminder successfully promotes positive behaviour in children, such as teaching them to have lovely manners. The childminder implements strategies to help children move to new settings, such as school, smoothly. For example, she uses stories to help extend their understanding about what school is like.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children show an eagerness to learn. For example, during their role play they ask the childminder the names of the vegetables on their pretend market stall. Older children make marks to represent words when they make shopping lists and read these back to others. Children learn about numbers and make simple calculations, including typing numbers into a calculator to add up what they spend at a market stall. Younger children develop their speech and they communicate with the childminder and repeat words she teaches them.
