This provision is good
Children's personal, social and emotional development is promoted well and they make independent choices from the many resources available to them. Children are settled and happy. The childminder praises them effectively. For example, when children show kindness towards others she acknowledges this with positive verbal recognition. Children's speech and language is supported effectively. The childminder makes good use of music and rhyme time each day. She communicates clearly and slowly when talking to children. The children respond confidently as they copy her words. This encourages their growing speech and language development. The childminder has a good partnership with parents and carers. She works closely with them to support them in extending their children's learning at home. Parents speak highly of the childminder. They are very happy with the care their children receive. The childminder regularly reviews her setting. She frequently seeks feedback from

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently reinforce children's growing awareness of how good hygiene practices contribute to their good health. The childminder does not make the best use of opportunities for children to explore, talk about and experiment with colours and textures.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed an adult-led activity and evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and viewed evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults living on the premises. The inspector spoke with children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder demonstrates a very strong knowledge and understanding of how to protect children. She has a range of comprehensive policies, procedures and risk assessments, which is reviewed regularly and updated as necessary. The childminder is vigilant. She knows the procedures to follow, and the professionals to contact, if she has concerns about the children in her care. The childminder regularly attends training for her own professional development. She works closely with other providers and professionals to ensure that she can support whole families and promote children's continuity of care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes good use of her regular observations and accurately assesses children's development. She plans engaging activities that incorporate children's individual interests and help them achieve their next steps in learning. Children count with confidence as they build towers. They recognise shapes and colours and develop their understanding of mathematical language. Children enjoy story time with the childminder. They fully engage in the story as the childminder asks probing questions, which encourages them to think further. The childminder provides good quality teaching. She demonstrates a strong understanding of how children learn and she provides interesting activities that stimulate their engagement.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a good role model. She sets consistent boundaries and encourages children to behave well. The childminder supports children's emotional well-being. She provides children with regular cuddles and reassurance. Children learn about their personal safety. For example, the childminder reminds them of how to use the slide safely and appropriately. Children eat a range of healthy home-cooked meals and snacks, which the childminder prepares freshly for them. She confidently meets children's individual dietary needs and specific requirements.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are making good progress and gaining the necessary skills to be ready for school or the next stage of their learning. The childminder is aware of children's starting points and capabilities and she supports them to develop very well. Outside, children enjoy and engage in a wide range of activities and experiences that support their physical development. They giggle excitedly as they splash in water. They develop their small- muscle skills as they quickly learn to pour and scoop the water.
