Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent understanding of her role for child protection. Her knowledge is up to date and she is fully informed of current procedures. The childminder is passionate about her work and focused on her professional development. She accesses ongoing training, such as webinars, to improve her teaching skills and she reads extensively. The childminder reflects on what she has learnt and how she can use this to improve further. Evaluation of her provision is highly effective and continual. For example, she is currently reviewing the already stimulating outdoor area to see how she can make this even better.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder is highly responsive to children's learning preferences, individual interests and achievements. She is very respectful of children's chosen play and gives them time to explore their own ideas. The exceptionally well-resourced indoor and outdoor areas give children a wide range of experiences. An excellent range of outings and visits is arranged to extend children's learning and experiences even further. The childminder is highly skilled in promoting children's communication and language. She follows children's lead as they talk about their interests, listens carefully to them and then asks questions to extend and build their vocabulary and understanding.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder helps children to gain an excellent understanding of how to keep themselves healthy and safe. For example, she sits with children as they prepare and eat their lunch together. She skilfully utilises this time to raise their awareness of nutrition. The childminder teaches them how to use everyday tools safely and how to assess hazards during their play. As they get older, children fully understand why they must wear a hat when it is sunny and why and when they must wash their hands. The childminder explains about the importance of exercise and provides excellent opportunities for their physical development.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make high rates of progress in relation to their starting points and are very motivated, enthusiastic learners. They are becoming extremely independent and have high levels of confidence. This prepares them well for the next stage in their learning. They become highly articulate communicators who use and understand an impressive vocabulary. For example, they explain to the childminder that butterfly wings are symmetrical and tell her why. Their understanding of number is equally impressive. Pre- school children count confidently up to 20 and recognise numerals.
