This provision is good
Children enjoy the activities the childminder offers and are eager to participate. She individually tailors them to the children's needs. This helps children to achieve their next steps and make good progress in their learning from their starting points. The childminder uses her local area to extend the range of interesting learning experiences she offers. Children get involved in the community and learn to embrace, value and respect similarities and differences in themselves and others. The childminder gives clear messages about the behaviour expected and is a good role model herself. Children are kind, respectful and share the resources. The childminder carries out daily risk assessments to ensure that the premises and equipment are safe for children to use. This helps children to become secure and confident when they explore the learning environment. The childminder keeps up to date with any changes in legislation and uses different

training opportunities to develop her knowledge and skills. She uses what she learns to inform her practice and benefit children.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses chances to extend children's learning about healthy lifestyles further, especially during daily routines. During planned activities, the childminder does not always provide children with a wide range of opportunities to actively direct and develop their own learning experiences.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises and observed children engaged in a variety of learning experiences. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's records, policies and procedures. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took into account the views of parents through written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has clear policies and procedures in place to ensure children are safe and well cared for. She knows how to act in an emergency and how to recognise and manage any concerns regarding children's welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder evaluates the quality of the service she provides, finding out what parents expect. This helps her to make continuous improvements to her setting. Parents comment that they are very happy with the quality of care and experiences their children receive. The childminder works together with the parents and the health visitor when completing the progress check for children at age two. She monitors children's progress effectively to help identify and address any gaps in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good range of activities to promote children's development in all areas of learning. For example, children enjoy reading books, exploring play dough, painting and playing with balls outdoors. She uses her assessments of children's progress, as well as information from other settings children attend, to inform the planning of activities. This helps her to meet the needs and interests of all children and provide continuity in learning. The childminder interacts well with children and makes learning fun, asking questions and talking about what happens. For example, children prepare tea and food for her during role play and together they talk about how it tastes. This supports children to develop their communication and language skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is flexible in her organisation of the routines of the day, offering children choices about what they would like to do and when. This helps to promote their engagement and self-esteem. The childminder gets to know the children well and their routine at home. This helps her to meet children's individual needs so they settle-in quickly. Children receive support to manage their personal-care skills and become independent. For example, the childminder works together with parents to help children learn to use the toilet independently and gain an understanding of good hygiene routines.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children become confident and build relationships, developing skills needed for their next stage of learning. For example, children visit playgroups, where they experience being part of a larger group and meet new people. Children learn about numbers and colours , for example, when reading books and make patterns when painting apples. This helps to develop their early literacy and mathematical skills.
