The childminder promotes children's understanding of how suitable hygiene practices contribute towards their good health. Children follow effective handwashing routines and are developing age-appropriate self-care skills. Children naturally share and help each other during their games. They are learning to respect resources and are happy to help tidy away toys when they have finished playing with them. Children confidently make choices about what they play with. The well-qualified childminder demonstrates a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She observes children as they play to find out what they enjoy. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of how to report any concerns she has about children's welfare. The childminder follows a programme of professional development which includes regular research to keep up to date with changes in childcare practice. She shares her policies with parents to ensure that they are fully aware of her procedures in the event of a complaint or concern. Parents comment about the caring and welcoming environment the childminder provides. Children's progress is carefully reviewed to ensure that any gaps in their learning are swiftly addressed. The childminder evaluates all areas of her practice, in order to ensure continuous improvement to the quality of her provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The experienced childminder knows the children and their capabilities well. She helps to promote children's learning by providing a wide range of stimulating activities and good quality toys that meets their individual needs. The childminder shares information with parents about children's ongoing development and works closely with them to support children's learning. She takes good account of children's interests, such as dinosaurs, cars and trains, and incorporates these into her weekly planning to ensure they are interested and motivated to learn. Children enjoy learning. They are eager to explain about the life cycle of a frog and are keen to explore what happens as they mix flour and paint together for their self-portraits. The childminder skilfully promotes their interests through songs, art and stories.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop their imaginations and creativity as they play with small-world toys and create structures with the building blocks. Their physical development is promoted well and they enjoy fresh air and exercise on a daily basis. Children enjoy regular walks in the local community where they observe how the environment changes during the different seasons. They eat a well-balanced diet which includes fresh fruit at snack time. Children respond well to the childminder's genuine praise for their achievements. This motivates them to eagerly carry out appropriate responsibilities, such as putting their coat on their peg and finding their names for self-registration.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are active learners and quickly become confident in the child-centred environment. They listen attentively to stories and understand that print carries meaning. They develop a good understanding of mathematical concepts as they count objects during their play. Children are making good progress and developing key skills needed for their future learning, including school.
