This provision is good
The childminder develops secure relationships with children and provides a warm, friendly environment. She is nurturing, kind and encouraging. This helps children to feel valued and self-assured. Effective observation and assessment systems are in place. This helps the childminder to monitor the progress children make and to plan for what they need to learn next. Children are motivated and enthusiastic and make good progress. The childminder is qualified and experienced. She uses this knowledge to organise her provision effectively. Children's learning, health, safety and welfare are promoted well. Parents are very happy with the service the childminder provides. They speak highly of the relationships between her and their children and the way in which she supports their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children are not always offered varied opportunities that support them in developing their early writing skills. The childminder does not gather in-depth information about what children already know and can do when they first start. The current arrangements for professional development do not fully provide opportunities for the childminder to consider how to raise teaching to the highest level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living and working in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the signs to look out for and the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about children's safety or welfare. The premises are safe and secure and children are supervised at all times. The childminder shares good practice and exchanges ideas and support with other childminders. This helps her to enhance her provision and build on the already good quality care provided. Positive partnerships are in place with the nurseries that children attend.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of children's developmental needs and interests. She interacts well with children and motivates them to learn. For example, she pays fun games, such as dominoes, to encourage children to count, match and take turns. She uses photographs to prompt children to recall and describe past events. Children excitedly talk about the outings and activities they have participated in. The childminder widens children's understanding of the world. She teaches them about nature and provides opportunities to learn about plants, insects and animals. She takes them on trips, often using public transport, which provides exciting new experiences for some children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is responsive to children's individual care needs. For example, she recognises when babies need comfort and offers them cuddles and reassurance. Behaviour is managed well. The childminder teaches children how to share, be kind to each other and to keep themselves safe. She works closely with parents and nurseries to ensure children have consistent boundaries so they learn what is expected of them. The childminder successfully promotes children's health. Meals and snacks are healthy and nutritious and children soon recognise which foods are good for them. Children are active and have plenty of opportunities to develop physical skills. As they get older, they walk when on outings and visit the park frequently to use the equipment there.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills for their future learning and are well prepared to move on to nursery and school. They are interested to learn and develop good independence and social skills. They communicate confidently and impress with their use and understanding of words. For example, they use words, such as metamorphosis and antennae as they describe the butterfly lifecycle. They enjoy mathematical challenges and have fun exploring and guessing what sinks and floats during water play.
