Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of signs and symptoms that may indicate possible abuse to children. She knows who to contact should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder has robust procedures in place to deal with emergency situations and continuously assesses areas to monitor risks. Children enjoy talking to the childminder about road safety when they are playing with toy cars. The childminder's self-evaluation is sharply focused to enable her to precisely identify priorities in order to raise the quality of the provision to further promote good outcomes for children. Parents report they feel that their children are well looked after and they are happy in the childminder's care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a rich and varied learning environment that promotes children's interest and motivation to play and explore. She is well qualified and has a good understanding of how young children learn and develop. The childminder uses detailed observations and assessments to identify what children need to learn next. She plans activities well to ensure children enjoy a variety of challenging experiences that builds on their curiosity. The childminder's skilful questioning and meaningful interactions encourage children to think for themselves. Children develop an appreciation for books and an early interest in reading as they join in with well-known stories.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows the children in her care very well. Children show they are settled and have built secure friendships with her. This supports their self-assurance and emotional well-being effectively. The childminder supervises children attentively and promotes their good health. For instance, children benefit from healthy meals and regular exercise. They really enjoy excitedly running around the garden taking part in obstacle courses and hunting for bugs. Children enjoy going on regular visits and trips in the local community, such as to the park, library or music and movement groups. This inspires children and helps to extend their knowledge of the world around them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make consistently good progress in their learning. They are enthusiastic in their play and show a readiness to learn. Children show high levels of confidence in selecting resources and engage in activities for extended lengths of time. Children eagerly take part in counting games and puzzles about ladybirds. Children's growing independence is encouraged well. For example, they learn to tidy up after themselves and follow house rules. Children are being well prepared for their next stage in learning and their eventual move on to school.
