This provision is good
The childminder works closely with parents and other settings that children attend. She shares regular information about children's learning to help provide them with continuity. The childminder uses every opportunity to extend on children's mathematical learning. When they eat their snack of berries, she encourages their counting and sorting skills. Children are able to use simple addition and subtraction and are rightly proud of themselves and their excellent abilities to solve problems. Children are confident in choosing what to play with. During art activities, they mix materials together and recognise changes that happen. They talk about the changing colours they make and how glittery paint makes their picture look sparkly. Children are imaginative as they play. They pretend to be doctors and nurses and show empathy and care for each other. The childminder helps children to recognise and talk

about their feelings. The childminder helps children to learn about healthy eating. They grow fruits in the garden and talk about why drinking water is good for them.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder attends regular training, she is not confident in knowing how to use her new knowledge to enhance the quality of her teaching and practice even further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector talked with the childminder, co-childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector read through written feedback left by parents and took consideration of their views. The inspector looked at children's learning journals, diaries and photographs of their activities. The inspector talked with the childminder about her self-evaluation document and her policies and procedures. The inspector observed children's activities indoors and discussed a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her co- childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding children are effective. The childminder refers to her policies and procedures to guide her work. She is aware of the work of her Local Safeguarding Children Board and recognises the signs and symptoms that might suggest children are at risk of harm. The childminder works closely with her local authority development worker and reviews her provision. She has made improvements, such as working with her co-childminder to improve their planning of activities for children. The childminder and her co-childminder motivate each other and work together well.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy activities. The childminder gets involved in role play games and children delight in using their imagination. When examining the childminder's ears as they take on the role of being doctors, they shriek as they pretend to find a spider inside. The childminder reads children stories that link to themes, such as people who help us. Children enjoy playing with walkie-talkies, dressing up and learning about different occupations. They become animated as they talk about firefighters and what they do. The childminder observes children and makes accurate assessments about their development. This supports her in identifying and supporting what they need to learn next.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are confident and start conversations about the things that interest them. They show a fondness for the childminder and in turn, she is warm and affectionate towards them. The childminder gives children individual time and attention. She rewards them when they try hard at activities by giving them a sticker. Children explain that they will tell their parents why they got the sticker and are proud of their achievements. The childminder supports children in developing confidence in larger groups and learning good social skills, such as sharing.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. They make particular gains in their communication and language skills. They receive high-quality teaching that supports them in becoming aware of the rules of conversation and extends their vocabulary. Children are capable and independent in meeting their own needs. As they increase in age, they demonstrate the skills they need to be successful in their future learning, such as starting nursery or school. Children's behaviour is good and they show an understanding of the daily routine and what is expected of them.
