This provision is good
Children are very happy in the childminder's care. They settle quickly and form very good relationships with the childminder and other children. The childminder generally uses her assessments well to identify further learning opportunities. The childminder works effectively with local schools and nurseries. There is a consistent and shared approach to supporting children's learning. Children demonstrate their developing independence as they manage their own personal hygiene and select their own toys and resources. Children are happy, confident and demonstrate a strong sense of belonging within the warm and welcoming provision. The childminder generally uses her assessments well to understand where children are in their learning and to shape learning experiences.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the quality of the childminder's teaching is good overall, there are occasions when she does not routinely build upon what children need to learn next. The childminder's evaluation and plans for professional development are not sufficiently focused on how she can enhance children's learning to an outstanding level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
strengthen the quality of teaching to make better use of all opportunities to build upon what children need to learn next strengthen self-evaluation processes and professional development plans to help children make the best possible progress.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector reviewed some relevant documentation. She also discussed the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and evidence of the suitability of all adults living and working on the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has completed safeguarding training and enhances her knowledge by attending additional associated workshops. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures she should follow if she has a concern about the welfare of a child in her care. She ensures information, such as contact numbers are correct. The childminder uses risk assessments in the family home to help reduce potential risks to children to help to keep them safe. The childminder monitors the learning programmes to ensure the seven areas of learning are effectively covered.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is well qualified and has a good understanding of how children learn. She understands the importance of following children's interests. For example, when children show an interest in exploring instruments, she builds upon this effectively. In addition, a good relationship with parents helps the childminder to build upon children's learning and interests from home. As a result, children are engaged and motivated to learn. The childminder supports children's language development extremely well. She adapts her language effectively to help younger children expand their vocabulary. As a result, even very young children confidently attempt to copy the words they hear.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's emotional development effectively. Flexible settling-in arrangements help children to quickly feel at home in the childminder's care. Babies demonstrate this strong bond as they follow the childminder wherever she goes. They smile and giggle as they eagerly anticipate tickling games. Parent comment that the childminder is very flexible and supportive. The childminder obtains detailed information about children's learning care needs. As a result, the childminder is highly sensitive to children's individual needs and responds to these calmly. Children behave well. The childminder has clear boundaries which she calmly and effectively reinforces. Daily opportunities are provided for children to take part in physical activities, such as playing in the park.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress across all areas of development. Children have the confidence to lead their own learning and express their ideas. They engage in activities and show high levels of fascination. Children learn new words rapidly as they look at books or play instruments. They are developing a range of skills and knowledge in preparation for school.
