This provision is good

 The childminder updates her knowledge and skills effectively. She utilises her skills and training from working at the local pre-school and school to enhance her good practice as a childminder.  Close working with the other settings that children attend helps the childminder to provide children and their parents with continuity in their care and learning.  Engaging story times sustain children's interests and help to promote their communication and language skills well. They make connections, such as studying pictures closely, pointing out images of shoes in the book and comparing the pictures to their own shoes.  Children make good progress in their learning and are well prepared for school.  Children enjoy being active and learn about the foods the childminder grows in the garden. They eat healthy snacks and talk about the foods that they like. This contributes towards their learning about leading healthy lifestyles.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 There are not always well-planned opportunities for children to learn about and use technology in their play.  Opportunities for children to learn about people, families and communities beyond their immediate experience are not plentiful.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide even more opportunities for children to use technology  increase the range of activities to support children's learning about the diverse world in which they live.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation including, children's learning records, evidence of the childminder's training and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and household members.  The inspector read feedback left by parents and took account of their views.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children throughout the inspection at suitable times.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of safeguarding. She understands about local, relevant child protection issues and takes measures to review her work. She maintains a safe environment for children and keeps up to date with the work of her Local Safeguarding Children Board. The arrangements for safeguarding children are effective. The childminder works closely with parents. They praise her flexible approach, suggesting she goes above and beyond their expectations in caring for their children. The childminder has successfully addressed recommendations form her previous inspection. Her positive attitude, willingness to learn and ability to critically review her work, indicates she has a strong capacity to sustain the good quality of care and education she provides for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a calm and relaxed environment where children can choose what they want to play with. Children use dough to make figures and shapes and talk about the colour and texture of the dough. They develop their physical skills well and enjoy racing across the room on a ride on ladybird toy. Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder observes them as they play and identifies their next steps in learning. She recognises factors that influence children's speech and language development and effectively supports them to gain excellent communication skills. Children talk as they engage in activities and the childminder uses timely questioning to extend children's ideas and broaden their vocabulary.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder places a high emphasis on supporting children's emotional, as well as physical good health. She understands about the importance of enabling children to understand their emotions and express how they are feeling. This approach contributes towards children's confidence and high self-esteem. The childminder is kind and caring. Children form close relationships with her and seek her for comfort and reassurance. Their behaviour is excellent. Children know the daily routine and are eager to help with small tasks, such as tidying away toys. They learn a sense of responsibility and independence as they play.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop into confident and capable individuals who are inquisitive and excited by their learning. They show an awareness of numbers and counting and name colours as they play. Children successfully match pictures of animals as they recognise pairs when completing puzzles. They gain the skills they need to be ready to move on in their learning and to eventually start school.
