The childminder creates a warm, welcoming environment. She has caring and supportive relationships with children which help to support their emotional well-being. The childminder shows a genuine and sincere interest in the children and what they have been doing in school. She asks them questions about their day and supports them to develop listening and concentration skills during conversations. The childminder successfully gains information from teachers in school to enable her to plan activities that build on what children can already do and to complement learning in the classroom, where they spend more time. Partnerships between the childminder and parents are good. Parents express a very high regard for the service provided for them and their children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder is well qualified and has completed the mandatory training, she has not yet made the most of professional development opportunities to raise the quality of her practice from good to outstanding. The outdoor area is less effectively planned to provide highly imaginative and varied experiences for children who prefer to play outdoors.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of indoor experiences and assessed the impact on children's enjoyment and engagement in the activities. The inspector viewed a focused activity and held discussions with the childminder and children. The inspector accompanied the childminder and children on an outing as they walked home from school. The inspector reviewed evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder, self-evaluation, risk assessment and policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the views of parents from those spoken to on the day and from their written testimonials.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows what to do if she has a concern about a child's welfare. She also understands her responsibility to protect children who may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas and thoughts. Robust policies and procedures help to ensure the home is safe and parents are fully informed about the childminder's practice. The childminder also ensures that children remain safe on outings and are closely supervised at all times. She calmly makes sensible decisions when emergency situations arise. The childminder drives improvements by continually evaluating her practice. She also takes into account the views of parents and children to widen the scope for improvements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She places a good focus on ensuring that activities are fun and appeal to children of all ages. Children are consulted about many aspects of the activity planning. They offer ideas for new topics and take decisions about the resources they use. The childminder encourages children to try to find solutions and answers to problems for themselves. They use mathematical language as they investigate how to construct chutes that enable marbles to roll freely without obstruction. Children are imaginative, enthusiastic and animated as they express their ideas. For example, they become involved in writing and acting out short plays. Overall, children have some appropriate outdoor play opportunities, including visits to the nearby park on the way home from school. This promotes their physical well-being and helps to develop their understanding of the natural world and changing seasons.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has successfully created a very caring and secure environment where children enjoy themselves and have fun. Children are very well behaved and play harmoniously together. They share and take turns in games and show tolerance and respect for the younger children present. The childminder gives clear and consistent support as children develop their independence in ways that are appropriate for their age. The childminder also uses everyday opportunities and conversations to help children gain an understanding about diversity and people in the wider world. Children develop positive attitudes towards healthy and safe lifestyles. The childminder ensures they eat healthy snacks that meet their nutritional needs. Children practise the emergency fire evacuation procedures at regular intervals. Children also confidently follow road safety routines when they walk home from school.
