Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is extremely knowledgeable about her role and responsibility in protecting children from abuse and neglect. Children are very well supervised and rigorous safety measures are implemented around the childminder's home and on outings. The childminder makes excellent links with other early years providers to complement children's learning and development even further. The childminder has a very well targeted and detailed programme of self- evaluation. She always focuses on the impact for children, meaning that they are central to everything she does. For example, she has plans to enhance children's excellent outdoor learning experiences further.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

Children respond very well to the childminder's excellent teaching methods and demonstrate highly positive attitudes to learning. The childminder is meticulous in how she observes, assesses and monitors children's progress. Children are extremely confident when exploring the environment. They play a full and active role in their own learning, they make choices and decisions about the resources they use. They explore what happens to water when it is frozen. The childminder extends this by providing children with the tools and resources to explore the ice. The childminder takes every opportunity to ask purposeful questions and introduce new words. Children rapidly develop effective communication skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children are extremely happy, settled and relaxed in the wonderfully nurturing environment. Interaction between the childminder and children is exceptional and they have clearly formed strong, secure relationships. The childminder knows the children very well and successfully anticipates when they need food, drink or rest. They understand the safety rules as they are careful with resources and know that tidying up prevents them from falling over toys and hurting themselves. The childminder provides children with excellent opportunities to enjoy the fresh air and challenge themselves physically as they have access to the outdoor environment every day.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are making excellent progress in their learning given their starting points. They display high levels of competence with their problem solving and number skills as they enjoy a range of challenging and exciting experiences. For example, one child is confident in explaining the rules of a colour and shape matching game to the younger children. Children are very enthusiastic, confident learners with wide ranging skills in readiness for school and their future learning.
