This provision is good

 The childminder has formed successful partnerships with other childminders. She meets with them regularly to share good practice, which helps to keep her knowledge updated.  The childminder is warm and experienced and uses a wide range of teaching techniques to encourage children to think, talk, explore and play. Children make good progress in relation to their individual starting points.  The childminder has good relationships with children. They feel happy, safe and secure in her company, which helps to support their emotional well-being.  The childminder helps children value and learn to respect similarities and differences. They enjoy a wide range of activities and visits to places in the community and further afield.  The childminder has built good relationships with parents. Information is gathered from them before children start, enabling the childminder to plan experiences to help children settle and learn.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not precisely identify where improvements can be made to raise outcomes for children even further.  The childminder does not always encourage children to carry out tasks to extend their independence.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make more effective use of self-evaluation to precisely identify where improvements can be made to raise the quality of the provision further  extend opportunities for children to carry out more tasks independently, in readiness for school.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of her role and responsibilities. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows the signs and symptoms that would indicate a child is at risk of harm. She has a good understanding of the local reporting procedures. The childminder has established good relationships with other providers. This helps to contribute to a successful shared approach to children's care and learning when they move between settings. Regular assessment helps the childminder to check children's progress. She uses this information to address any gaps in their learning and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children enjoy their time with the childminder and eagerly engage her in their play. Children's communication and language skills are successfully promoted. The childminder engages children in discussions as they play, asks effective questions and encourages them to think for themselves. She ensures activities are adapted appropriately to help meet the needs of all children. For example, when completing a baking activity with the children, she gives the youngest children their own equipment. This allows them to participate, while not distracting the older children from their weighing and measuring. The childminder supports mathematical language well. She helps children to count and make comparisons about size.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a good role model. Children are confident, behave well and learn to share and take turns. There are well-established hygiene routines that children follow. For example, they wash their hands before a cooking activity and before snack time. Toys and equipment are well organised and stored effectively, enabling children to make independent choices. All children's care needs are agreed with parents and ongoing daily diaries help to ensure children's needs are continually met.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children access the welcoming play environment with confidence. They willingly engage in a wide range of learning experiences, such as making marks to support their early writing skills. All children make good progress from when they begin to attend. Children are well supported in preparation for the next stage in their learning, including their eventual on to school.
