This provision is good
The childminder seeks to make continuous improvements to the quality of her setting, for example, through ongoing training and changes to her environment. The childminder has a good understanding of the statutory requirements. The childminder provides a wide range of resources, both inside and outside, which effectively considers the different ages and stages of all children she cares for. The childminder makes accurate assessments of children's development and identifies their next steps appropriately. Care practices are effective. The childminder builds warm and trusting relationships with the children. The childminder is attentive to the needs of her children who are confident and motivated to explore. The childminder has positive relationships with parents, sharing knowledge and support to work together and optimise their child's next stage in learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always consider the opportunities for children to practise the next steps in their development. The childminder does not consistently take parental views into account when evaluating the setting.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector considered the views of parents. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including observations, policies and procedures and safeguarding information. The inspector carried out an observation and discussed this with the childminder. The inspector had discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clearly committed to keeping children safe. This is evident through risk assessments, parent information, policies, procedures and practical considerations. Children are respected as individuals who learn at different rates. The childminder seeks support from outside agencies when appropriate, such as speech and language therapy. She has also sought training which reinforces the focus of the individual child, including developing her knowledge of supporting children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of the children in her care, including their likes, dislikes and stages of development. She regularly shares and celebrates children's progress with their families. The childminder joins in with the children enthusiastically in their play and shares their discoveries with interest. The childminder promotes independence and choice through a variety of easily accessible resources. For example, in a craft activity, children wheel in supporting resources in trolleys and select from a choice of different media and materials. The childminder has an abundance of resources which cover all areas of learning successfully. The childminder knows how to extend activities to meet the changing needs and interests of the children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is responsive to children's needs. She demonstrates empathy and sincerity in her interactions with children. The childminder encourages children to be kind, considerate and responsible, for example, through the care of the setting's pet tortoise. Parents report that their children are happy to attend and respond positively to behaviour strategies. The childminder supports children's sense of achievement through praise and encouragement. Children have regular opportunities to learn and explore outside and how to keep themselves safe. The childminder takes the children to visit farms, pet shops and each year they have a summer day trip to Weymouth with the parents. The childminder promotes children's well-being effectively.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children know their play is valued and can express their needs and feelings comfortably. Children learn how to be confident and independent and make good progress. Children are happy, they smile and laugh and enjoy playing and exploring with the childminder. Children learn about diversity and difference, for example, through displays, which promote positive inclusive images and outings.
