This provision is good

 Effective observation helps the childminder to identify children's next steps in learning, their current interests and plan activities to help them progress further. Children make good progress.  The childminder shares information about children's care and learning with parents daily. Parents comment they are happy with the care their children receive.  Children have positive relationships with the childminder. They are happy and settled in her care. This helps to support their emotional and physical well-being effectively.  The childminder regularly reflects on her practice. She considers what works well and improvements to make. She seeks the views of parents and children to help drive further improvements.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Systems to share information with other settings children attend are not fully developed to help ensure consistency in all children's care and learning.  Children do not have a wide enough range of opportunities to explore making marks and drawing in their chosen play to help support their future learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen partnerships with all other settings that children attend to promote even greater consistency and continuity in their care and learning  create more opportunities for children to draw and make marks in their chosen play to help develop skills for early writing.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder's interaction and teaching and the impact on children's learning.  The inspector checked documents, including the childminder's suitability and training certificates.  The inspector sampled the children's planning documents, and discussed individual children's learning and development.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her self-evaluation process.  The inspector sampled the childminder's policies and procedures, including those for safeguarding.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what signs she must be alert to and the appropriate action to take should she have any concerns about a child's welfare or safety. The childminder risk assesses areas where children play to help her identify any potential hazards and minimise them. This helps children remain safe. Since her last inspection the childminder has dedicated time to furthering her professional development and refreshing her skills and knowledge. She has used this development for example, to help children's positive behaviour. She works closely with other childminders to share ideas and suggestions.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder monitors and assesses children's achievements effectively to help her plan activities and experiences that are relevant to their stage of learning. The childminder uses a range of effective strategies to support children's communication and language skills. For example, she uses stories and repeats new words to extend young children's vocabulary. Children have fun exploring play dough and concentrate well as the childminder teaches them how to cut the play dough hair with scissors. The childminder helps them to learn how to use them safely. The childminder supports children to develop their mathematical skills well. For example, she makes good use of every opportunity to encourage them to count and use numbers, for example, as they count chairs for the activities.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Overall, children behave well and play together cooperatively. The childminder praises children for their good behaviour and achievements. This helps to raise their self-esteem and confidence. Healthy lifestyles are effectively encouraged and children enjoy the fresh air as they visit local places in the community. Children learn to manage their own personal care needs and quickly become independent. They develop good social skills and confidence in their surroundings. For example, they are able to independently choose games and activities.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children enjoy a range of different experiences and outings outside of the childminder's home and have good opportunities to learn about the differences between themselves and others. For example, they visit local playgroups where they meet and interact with other children. This also helps to develop their social skills. Children are engaged in exciting activities and are encouraged to lead the play. For example, they enjoy pressing buttons on books and imitate sounds they hear. Children enjoy problem solving as they play together arranging the puzzle pieces to fit correctly in the spaces.
