All children make good progress. Children demonstrate they are happy and feel safe and secure in the childminder's care. The childminder acts as a good role model. She is calm when caring for children and encourages them to be polite. Children behave well. Partnerships with parents are good. Parents are complimentary about the quality of the care and learning the childminder provides. She shares information regularly with other settings that children also attend to support continuity in children's experiences. build on and refine the already good systems for planning and assessment in order to plan precise ways to help children achieve the best possible progress in their learning offer children more opportunities to develop their creative skills.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder engaged in activities with the children indoors and outdoors. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector considered the written views of parents. The inspector reviewed documents, including evidence of the suitability of adults living in the household and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The premises are organised effectively to promote children's safety. For example, toys are stored appropriately to ensure they do not pose a hazard and all exits are secure. The childminder takes into account the views of parents and children to review her practice and to provide a good service. She has successfully acted on the recommendations from the last inspection. The childminder has a good understanding of local child protection procedures and can explain the steps to take should she suspect a child is at risk of harm. Risk assessments are used to help ensure the environment is safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows each child well. She has many years of experience and, overall, uses her skills very well to support children's learning. The childminder observes children at play and notes the progress they make. She gets down to children's level as they play and effectively builds on their ideas. She uses a wide range of questions to engage children's thinking and communication skills and encourages children to solve problems. For example, children enjoy playing during a water activity, set up like the sea, persevering until they catch a fish. Children who prefer to learn outdoors have a good range of opportunities to use their imagination and be physically active in the well- resourced garden.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children receive praise which helps to build their confidence and sense of self-esteem. Children develop an understanding of how to keep safe. For example, they clear their toys away and take part in regular fire drills. The childminder supports children to develop their independence and self-care skills. For example, children know to wash their hands before eating and after going to the toilet. Children have regular opportunities for exercise, which helps to promote their understanding of healthy lifestyles. They enjoy outings to the park and the beach and play in the garden. They often walk the childminder's dog and take part in activities to support their knowledge of the natural world. For example, they gather different leaves for use in creative activities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy a variety of activities and experiences that supports their learning. They are developing the skills and attitudes needed to prepare them for their later move on to school. For example, they develop good mathematical awareness and enjoy counting and identifying colours during their daily routine. They are happy and motivated and have formed good emotional attachments to the childminder.
