p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a strong ability to recognise when a child may be at risk of harm or neglect. She keeps her knowledge up to date by attending training and accessing information through the local authority. Comprehensive checks on all matters relating to child protection are maintained. The childminder's formal childcare qualification and further training contribute to the high- quality provision and the excellent progress that children make.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder provides a child-centred environment and children eagerly participate in the rich learning experiences on offer. The childminder is very good at using spontaneous learning experiences that arise to extend children's learning even further. For example, children learn about the differences between sweet and sour tastes when a child decides that they would like to taste a lemon from the fruit bowl. The childminder expertly interacts with children to extend and enhance their learning. She uses questioning superbly to challenge children and help them develop their communication and language skills. One of the ways she does this is by reading children their favourite stories and leaving gaps in sentences to enable children to fill these gaps in using their own words.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder provides an exceptionally strong foundation to develop children's independence. Children make their own sandwiches at lunchtime, using a choice of fillings and pour their drinks from the water container. Children independently help themselves to fruit from the fruit bowl and show persistence as they attempt to cut the fruit to bite size. The childminder stays close by ready to offer assistance when children decide that they need help. Children develop and an excellent understanding of a healthy lifestyle through routines and activities. They taste the herbs that they grow in the garden and learn about the benefits of brushing their teeth after meals. Children learn to be safe and take manageable risks very well. They help the childminder risk assess various activities, such as hazards they may encounter on trips to the park.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children have an excellent ability to concentrate for extended periods. They are self- motivated, enthusiastic and curious learners. Consequently, children develop an excellent range of skills to support their future learning, including their eventual move on to school. The children encounter good learning opportunities outdoors. This area is identified for further development to richly enhance the development of those children who learn better outdoors.
