This provision is good
Babies and children make good progress and develop the skills they need for future learning. The childminder observes and monitors children's progress effectively to identify and plan for what they need to master next. The childminder promotes children's safety and physical well-being effectively. She encourages children to lead a healthy lifestyle. Children take part in swimming lessons and enjoy outings to indoor play centres and local parks. The childminder has good links with the local school and pre-school. When children also attend other settings, she shares information with key persons to promote continuity in learning and development. The childminder is committed to developing her service and is receptive to recommendations from her local authority adviser. The action from the last inspection has been successfully addressed. The childminder now ensures that she maintains a current first-aid qualification.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although partnerships with parents are good, the childminder has not yet established highly successful ways for all parents to share ongoing information about their children's learning at home. The childminder does not offer varied opportunities for the youngest children to explore and experiment with a range of sensory and tactile materials.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the children and discussed the children's progress and achievements with the childminder. The inspector viewed the children's development records. The inspector viewed evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder, self-evaluation, risk assessment and policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the views of parents from the written testimonials obtained by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues. She knows how to refer concerns to the relevant authorities. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments to minimise potential hazards and maintain a safe and secure play environment for children. She has currently made her garden out of bounds to children while renovations are underway. The childminder uses self-evaluation well to drive continued improvements. Feedback is obtained from parents and children to ensure that planned developments are pertinent. The childminder uses various sources of information to help her improve practice. She has started utilising online courses to improve her knowledge and skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is knowledgeable about the children in her care. She uses her teaching skills well to support children's development. The childminder demonstrates how toys work and continually talks to babies as she plays with them. She helps children and babies develop their vocabulary and confidence in expressing their needs and emotions. Children play with a wide range of toys and resources. They have opportunities to gain awareness of different people, cultures and customs beyond their own. Children go on a variety of outings in the vicinity. They also go on trips by train and extend their understanding of the world.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a kind and caring approach. Settling-in arrangements are thoughtfully planned to support children's emotional well-being. Babies are inquisitive and have strong bonds with the childminder. They are self-assured and relaxed in her care. The childminder follows children's home routines, including nappy changing and sleep routines. Babies sleep peacefully and undisturbed. They wake content and happy to resume their play. The childminder uses a variety of strategies, such as praise and explanation to help children to be kind and understand the needs of others. Parents make very complimentary comments about how the childminder has supported the children and families, particularly when they are experiencing difficulties in their lives.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning and development. Babies show fascination for the toys and resources the childminder offers. Older children enjoy opportunities to develop their mathematical and literacy skills. They skilfully complete puzzles and take part in activities that help to develop early reading and writing skills. They develop their independence and are encouraged to demonstrate a 'can do' attitude. These skills help to prepare children effectively in readiness for starting school.
