Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between staff and children as they engaged together in activities. The inspector and the manager undertook a joint observation of a teaching activity. The inspector held discussions with the manager and staff during the inspection about children's care and the activities provided for them. The inspector took into account the views of the parents and carers spoken to on the day and engaged with children at appropriate times. The inspector viewed documentation during the inspection, such as the setting's policies and procedures, and children's assessment folders.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Overall, the management team monitors staff's practice well and supports their ongoing professional development needs, such as through further training. They reflects on the quality of practice well and provide consistent support to help staff maintain good teaching levels. Leaders recognise the setting's strengths and areas to improve to help develop the provision further. Safeguarding is effective. The manager understands her responsibility to protect children and implements clear policies and procedures to ensure their welfare. Staff know how to recognise and report any signs that may indicate a child may be at risk of harm. They are deployed effectively throughout the nursery to ensure that children are well supervised and safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children play in a well-organised environment with a good range of age-appropriate resources. For example, older children enjoy exploring stencils to help them draw. They develop their creativity well and learn to use tools with control. Younger children play with sensory activities, such as scooping and pouring cereal in a tray with pots. They are excited to use their hands to feel different textures and they develop their physical skills well. Overall, staff support children effectively while they play. For instance, they join in to support children's involvement. Staff form effective partnerships with parents. For instance, they communicate with parents regularly and share information and resources with them, to help support children's development at home. Staff know their key children well and regularly observe what they can do and use this to plan for their future learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Staff are vigilant and successfully follow safety procedures to ensure children's well-being. They regularly assess risks in all areas that children use to identify and remove any hazards. Children have opportunities to learn how to keep safe. For instance, staff regularly practise evacuation procedures to help children learn what to do in the event of an emergency. They support children's understanding of healthy lifestyles effectively. Children eat nutritious foods, are active and enjoy using equipment. For example, they confidently use climbing apparatus and develop a good sense of balance. Staff support children well to develop an understanding of good hygiene practices. For instance, they teach them to wash their hands before they eat.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. For example, they develop their social skills well, such as learning to say please and thank you, and learning how to behave towards others. Older children communicate confidently and listen. Younger toddlers learn to make sounds while they play and enjoy babbling.
