This provision is good
The childminder's evaluation of her provision takes into consideration the views of parents and children. She continuously makes improvements to her setting in order to improve outcomes for children. The childminder builds strong partnerships with parents. She gains information from them when children first start attending about what they already know and can do and keeps them well informed of their ongoing progress. The childminder monitors children's learning and development effectively. This enables her to identify any areas where children's development is less than expected. From this, she is able to plan further activities to support children in all areas of learning. Children are happy, settled and confident. They show through their behaviour that they feel emotionally secure in the childminder's care. For example, they confidently approach her for cuddles when they feel tired. The childminder minimises potential risks within her home and garden and ensures her

home is secure so that children are kept safe.

It is not yet outstanding because:
When asking questions, the childminder does not always wait long enough for children to develop their thoughts, or to answer as fully as possible. The good arrangements established with other providers involved in children's care are not fully developed to ensure information about their learning is consistently shared.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during indoor activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through completed questionnaires and written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of safeguarding and child protection and she implements her detailed policies and procedures very effectively. She monitors children's progress to identify and act upon any gaps in their learning. The childminder is very well motivated. She keeps her knowledge up to date and has systems in place to enhance her provision. For example, she attends training and conducts her own research into child development issues. This helps her to improve children's learning experiences.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are enthused and engaged in a varied range of activities that support their play and learning well. The childminder notices the activities children particularly enjoy and builds on these. She identifies ways to challenge and extend their learning further. For example, older children's creativity and early writing skills are fostered as they design space passports. They talk about how they will see aliens, stars and planets. The childminder introduces mathematical concepts as she talks about how big and small the planets and stars will be. Overall, the childminder promotes language development well. She plays alongside children and talks to them about what they are doing, helping them to learn new words. The childminder identifies toddler's strong interest and curiosity with collecting and transporting objects and provides various bags and containers to support and extend their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are extremely happy and confident in the childminder's care. She is a positive role model who helps children to learn how to behave and interact with others. She recognises children's efforts and achievements and continually offers reassurance and praise. This helps children to become self-assured. Children enjoy healthy food and snacks and have daily opportunities to be physically active in the fresh air. Outings into the community help children to learn about the world around them. Children mix with other children and gain social skills while attending play sessions and toddler groups throughout the week.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress. Older children learn to count and use number language as they play. Toddlers are inquisitive and active learners. Early literacy skills are emerging as children make marks with pencils. Younger children make sounds and babble as older children learn and use new words. Older children demonstrate growing independence. For example, they are keen to help with small tasks, such as getting the plates ready for lunchtime. Children are well prepared for their move on to school.
