Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures. She identifies risks and minimises these to help promote children's safety and welfare effectively. The childminder demonstrates a good commitment to her ongoing professional development. For example, she researches aspects of child development online to enhance her knowledge and provide further support for parents. The childminder implements what she learns to help her meet the children's needs more effectively.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder monitors children's learning well, she plans activities that help children achieve the next steps in their learning and close any gaps. For example, she encourages children to develop their coordination and learn to recognise colours while playing with two different coloured balloons. Children show delight while they manoeuvre the balloons around the room, and sing as the childminder plays catch with them. She effectively promotes children's mathematical skills. For example, children learn to count and use mathematical language during everyday routines and play. The childminder asks questions to help children think about and express their feelings and ideas.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder praises children regularly for their efforts and achievements, which helps to motivate them to learn and builds their self-esteem. Children learn to manage their own personal needs, such as taking off their coats and shoes. The childminder successfully supports children's awareness of healthy lifestyles. For example, they enjoy nutritious snacks, such as apples and raisins. Children develop good physical skills and experience closely supervised risks. The childminder stays close to young children while they play and offers support and guidance, as required. For instance, children eagerly climb up the slide's ladder and negotiate tree logs in the local park.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and are working within the range of development typical for their age, given their starting points. They are motivated to learn and concentrate for long periods of time during activities. Children develop good early literacy skills. For example, they learn to hold a pen and pencil to draw circles on the wipe board, and delight in turning them into faces or spiders. Children gain the essential skills that they need to help prepare them in readiness for school.
