This provision is good

 The childminder has a good understanding of child development. She is mindful of the different ways in which children learn and provides a broad range of interesting activities that helps to develop their individual learning needs.  Children settle well in the childminder's care. She provides a warm, home-from-home environment that helps children to feel safe and secure. Children show they are confident to explore the toys and resources available to them.  Partnerships with parents are good. Children's progress is constantly shared through regular discussions and parents have constant access to an online system so that they are able to view and comment on photographs and observations of their children's learning with the childminder.  The childminder evaluates her service well. She is aware of her strengths and areas to develop. For example, she has plans in place to develop the learning opportunities

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not yet established effective information sharing with other settings children attend so that she is consistently aware of children's individual interests, achievements and learning needs.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 gather more detailed information about children's interests and achievements in other settings they attend, in order to provide a more coordinated approach to children's learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The childminder held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of signs and symptoms of abuse and how to report her concerns to the appropriate authorities. She attends safeguarding training and is up to date with new legislation. The childminder ensures her home is safe and suitable for children to use through a thorough process of risk assessment. The childminder attends training, such as schemas, to improve her knowledge and skills and to enhance children's learning experiences. She meets regularly with other childminders to share ideas and is a member of online childminder discussion groups. Parents speak positively about the childminder in written feedback. They feel their children are safe and well cared for.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder observes children and accurately assesses their learning. She uses this information well to identify appropriate next steps in children's learning. The childminder is confident to adapt activities as they happen to suit the needs of children she cares for. Children reluctant to use their hands to paint are provided with brushes so that they feel confident to take part in the activity and explore the paint. They enjoy mixing the colours and seeing the pattern that emerges when paper is placed over the top of the paint. Young children's speech and language are well promoted. The childminder talks to children as they play, repeating words and introducing new words, such as pattern, into their vocabulary.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have formed close bonds with the childminder and other members of her family. They are confident to approach her if they require help and communicate their wants and needs. Young children are beginning to learn the difference between right and wrong and the childminder is consistent in her approach to behaviour management. Children are encouraged to use good manners and learn to take responsibility for small tasks, such as tidying away toys after use. The childminder takes children out in the community to meet new people and helps them to develop good social skills with their peers. Children participate in daily physical play opportunities, either in the childminder's garden or at local parks and soft-play centres.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and are working securely within their age and stage of development. Children are becoming more confident and independent as they make their own play choices and select the resources that interest them. Children show increasing attention in activities, such as arts and crafts. They are developing the key skills they need for the next stage in their education.
