 The childminder evaluates her work effectively. For example, she discusses practice issues with childminding colleagues, takes notice of parents' comments and suggestions and keeps up to date with changes in requirements. This enables her to successfully plan for continuous improvement.  Children develop good social and physical skills and learn about the world around them. For example, they meet up with other children and adults as they visit the park and feed the ducks at the river.  The childminder encourages a healthy lifestyle. For example, children learn about healthy eating and every day the childminder ensures children have time for stimulating play and physical activity, in addition to a comfortable rest time.  Developmental progress is monitored carefully and any gaps in learning close quickly. Children make good progress.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder misses opportunities to fully involve parents in sharing information about what children already know and can do to help her assess children's starting points.

Overall, the childminder develops positive partnerships with parents and other professionals. For example, she provides parents with daily verbal feedback and online information about activities and progress. For example, she promotes communication and language particularly well, using guidance and resources from a language course she attended. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an up to date and secure knowledge of how to identify and report child protection concerns and protect children's welfare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has high expectations for every child. She gets to know them well and plans suitable activities to help them make good progress. The childminder knows how to include children of all ages in the same activities and how to adapt these to their various learning needs. The childminder helps children to develop their small-muscle skills and language. For example, she encourages younger children to feel jelly and cream. The childminder provides a commentary and responds to the sounds children make in response to the activity. The childminder develops good relationships with other settings that children attend. For example, she shares children's progress to support consistency in their learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder encourages healthy eating. For example, she talks to parents about healthy foods and portion sizes and she offers children nutritious snacks. The childminder helps children to behave well. For example, she talks to children and parents about the simple pictures that support the positive behaviours she encourages. The childminder is kind and gentle, which helps children to settle confidently in her care. She carefully risk assesses her environment and helps children to develop an awareness of safe behaviours. For example, children learn to use scissors with care and talk about road safety and what to do in the event of an emergency.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children explore the attractive resources confidently indoors and outdoors. They follow their own interests and the childminder adapts and extends their activities to provide further learning opportunities. Children enjoy many social opportunities in the community. They develop the skills they need to settle quickly and confidently into nursery and school when the time arises.
