This provision is good
The childminder uses effective ways of monitoring and assessing children's development and progress. She has a clear understanding of their starting points and capabilities. Children enjoy their time with the childminder and they build close relationships that help to promote their emotional well-being. The childminder is kind, caring and affectionate towards them. Children make good progress in their learning from their starting points. The stimulating variety of experiences help encourage children to play, explore and develop their own ideas. They gain skills that help to prepare them for their future learning. The childminder ensures that children have daily opportunities to be physically active. They confidently move around the garden using ride on toys, playing ball games and bouncing on a small trampoline.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always successfully engage all parents in sharing information that helps promote a more collaborative approach to children's development. Although the childminder has begun to develop strong relationships with other professionals, this partnership work is not yet focused on helping to identify and target areas for her ongoing development.

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed documents with regards to the qualifications of the childminder and suitability of those living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents via their comments in children's records. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector discussed a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation with regards to children's learning, welfare and safety.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a very good understanding of her responsibilities regarding safeguarding and child protection. She makes all required notifications to Ofsted concerning any changes to her household and is driven to provide a safe and secure environment for the children in her care. The childminder is well qualified and she uses her comprehensive knowledge and training to progress within her role and enhance her teaching practice. She is highly regarded by parents who value the service that she provides. The childminder's ongoing monitoring and evaluation ensures that children receive good quality experiences that help to promote their all-round development and well-being.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder recognises the value of exploration and play in children's learning and development. For example, she skilfully utilises an empty box which children enjoy playing with. They use it as a den to hide in, play with small world figures on top of it and use crayons to draw patterns. The childminder places a high focus on using children's interests to help foster their motivation to learn. She uses every opportunity to encourage children to practise making sounds and to begin saying words, for example, as they play with dinosaurs. The childminder provides different sensory resources that help to extend children's imaginative play. For example, children show fascination as they try to break ice from around small world figures and the childminder talks to them about what happens when the ice starts to melt.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children learn key messages that help to keep them safe. The childminder talks to them about why they need to wear sun cream and she perseveres in getting them involved in putting this on. The childminder encourages children to eat healthy foods and she provides a menu of balanced and nutritious meals. Her procedures for recording accidents, medication or injuries are robust. The childminder ensures that all areas of her home are safe and suitable for childcare use. Children are confident to choose and get out toys and equipment that they would like to play with. Children skilfully undo the straps of their shoes when coming in from playing outside. The childminder gives children short, clear instructions that help them to do things for themselves.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are capable and confident learners. They show a keen interest in investigating and learning new skills. This helps prepare them for the next stage in their learning and eventual move to school. Children show increasing levels of concentration and they persevere to achieve a goal. Young children begin to verbalise their thoughts and ideas.
